Parts and Service Memo PSM 003 0703 MSC MSC March 22, 2007 SUBJECT: Fast Pack. Dust Suppression Purging Procedure In some operation areas, the water in the dust suppression hoses on the Fast Pack assembly may freeze damaging the dust suppression system. Variables such as absolute temperature, wind speed, and low flow are all contributing factors affecting freeze up. While it is difficult to pinpoint the exact causes for freezing, KolbergPioneer, Inc. recommends that extreme care be taken when using dust suppression when temperatures are below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature inside the control trailer must be maintained above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature is expected to drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit overnight, water must be purged from the dust suppression hoses to avoid freeze damage to components. IMPORTANT The following is a general procedure only. This procedure may vary depending on the Fast Pack configuration and components using dust suppression. pressor turned on this will allow the main water line to fill with air down to the AMS screen plant (or the last core plant). When the drain is closed, the water line will act as a reservoir for the air. Starting at the plant closest to the control van, turn on each ball valve to purge the water through the nozzles. Close the valve when the line is completely purged. Finally, open the sub-main line valves to purge the water through nozzles on the off plant conveyors. Close the valve once purging is complete. Repeat this procedure for applying the glycol mist to the hoses. See drawing on page 4 for more information. Use the following procedure to drain the dust suppression hoses. 1. On the touch screen, touch STOP to turn off the dust suppression. In the control van, make sure the air compressor is on. General Purging Instructions In purging the Fast Pack dust suppression system, the operator purges the majority of water from the AMS screen plant, or the last core plant from the control van. The manifold valves on the main water line (1-1/2” hoses) must remain open while the ball valves (1” hoses) on each component are closed. Make sure the air valve from the compressor is turned on. If it is off, turn it on. 6. On the AMS screen plant, or the last core plant from the control van, open the drain line. Once the water has purged, close the drain line. Drain line on AMS screen plant Valve on air compressor 4. In the control van, turn off the water pump feed line valve and turn on the air compressor purge line valve. 7. On each core plant, locate the ball valves. On some plants these might be located near the main manifold; on other plants they may be located in different places. Open each ball valve purging the water through the nozzles until air begins to come through. Close the valve. Water pump feed line valve page 2 of 4 PSM 001 0703 MSC MSC March 22, 2007 12. Beginning again with the primary crushing plant, open the main mainifold valve and the plant’s ball valves to allow air combined with a glycol mist to coat the hoses. When the mist begins to exit the nozzles, close the ball valve and move to the next valve. Repeat this for all valves along the main water line. Main water line Main water line valve Ball valve 13. Repeat this procedure for each component along the main water line: screens, conveyors and crushers. Use the drawing on page 4 as a guide (The main water line is shown in red, water line for off plant conveyors is in blue) 10. After the main water line has been purged, purge the water from the off plant conveyors. 11. Once the lines have been drained, go back to the control van and open the glycol line valve.
