WEEKLY UPDATE
October 28, 2016
From the desk of the Principal:
The character education word of the month is APPRECIATE
STUDENTS OF THE WEEK
STUDENTS: Morgan Williams and Cindy Nguyen
NOMINATED BY: Ms. Messeck & Ms. Karrer
Both girls demonstrated school pride, respect and good character. It was a windy day outside
for P.E. class and the track was filled with papers/trash (from the football game) and they
both started picking it all up without hesitation! Morgan is in my class and Cindy is in Ms.
Messeck's class.
STUDENT: Parker Migliore
NOMINATED BY: Mr. Lucchio & Mr. Muskett
Everyday Parker comes into class with a positive and energetic attitude. He serves as a role
model to the rest of the class in terms of participation, showing respect to staff and peers, and
work ethic. Parker goes out of his way to greet all faculty and students with an uplifting
message every day.
Poe, Dreams of Madness opened to rave reviews last night. A great opening crowd was treated
to the type of thrills that a Poe script delivers so well. Mr. Walter commented “it was great to
see the works of Poe come to life on stage. The Cask of Amontillado scene was especially
chilling because of how well the cast and stage captured the eerie mood of the underground
cellar.” Please join us tonight to kick off this Halloween weekend in a properly creepy fashion.
Doors open at 6:15 pm and curtain is at 6:30 pm. Same times tomorrow night then a Sunday
matinee with a curtain time of 1:30 pm.
The Men’s Club at Village Grande (the community across High School Drive from our campus)
sponsors an EHT school each year for a charitable donation. This year, our school will be the
gracious recipient. Ms. Medio and the Art Club made the fundraising poster that the club will
use throughout the upcoing holiday season. Thanks to our talented Art students and the
generoisty of our Village Grande neighbors!
Mr. Brower and Dr. Graham attended the New Jersey School Boards Convention this week
with our CTE students who presented on the STEAM Tank Challenge. The link to STEAM Tank is
below as well as some great pictures contributed by BOE Member Amber Umphlett. Here is
Dr. Graham’s report: https://www.njea.org/news/2016-02-22/njsba-to-launch-creativeproblem-solving-challenge-at-workshop-2016
On Wednesday October 26, 2016 seven Egg Harbor Township students representing two
different STEM teams participated in the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA)
STEAM Tank Challenge at the 2016 NJSBA Conference at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
Our students and seventeen other districts were selected to participate out of the forty-seven
districts that applied to compete. Anya and Gianna, under the direction of former STEM
teacher Kristen Zompa, presented an alternative pollination source for crops using solar
powered bees. Etzel Brower’s students, Sheikh, Andrea, Maxim, Isabelle, and Brad presented a
STEM based touchpad circuit board for making an everyday process of lifting a window easier
for wounded veterans and other individuals who are physically disabled. The students did an
amazing job presenting and answering questions from the panel of judges and were
complimented by the STEAM tank judges for their project relevance, creativity, and design
thinking approach.
From Dr. Schreiner:
Ten EHTHS students received over $47,000 in study abroad scholarship funds in 2016 from the
Council on International Educational Exchange. Today they spoke to prospective students
about their programs. They showed pictures and memorabilia from their trips. A
representative from CIEE was also on hand to answer students’ questions. All students in
grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to apply for a Global Navigator Scholarship to study abroad
next summer 2017. The programs include: Language & Culture, Service & Leadership, and
Global Discovery. Applications are due 12/1/16. More information can be found
here: http://ehtworldlanguages.weebly.com/ciee.html
From Ms. McGinty:
Education and Training III had a great day at the pumpkin farm! Not only do the students in
Education and Training III develop lesson plans for the preschoolers in school, they also take
the lesson outside of school! E & T III planned, organized, and shared this wonderful
experience with the four-year old students. The learning experience deepened their
understanding of safety on field trips, involving parents in education, and extending the
learning. Here are seniors Matthew Stephens and Mikaela Altomare completing a fall
scavenger hunt with one of the students from the ABC Learning Center.
From Ms. Davis:
Jason Avant former Philadelphia Eagle and current Kansas City Chief paid our football players a
visit on Wednesday! Special Thanks to Pastor Rick and Coach Stetser for making that happen!

From Mrs. Grossman:
The library Makerspace hosted Mrs. McGinty’s Education and Training and Mrs. Ormond’s
classes on Tuesday, October 18th. The students made crafts and had a great time getting to
know each other. This event took place during Mrs. Nammour’s speech class and gave us the
opportunity to support the Week of Respect and School Violence Awareness Week which take
place in October.
Have a creepy crawly weekend!
Terry
