Cross Communiqué May 23, 2017 Mrs. Neyer’s 5th grade news We have reached the finish line for fifth grade now onto sixth. The students have grown academically but most importantly spiritually. It is with a tear in my eye that I say farewell and see you next year. May you find a restful summer and new zeal for the next school year! Dear Cross Families, Godspeed! Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost REGISTER TODAY FOR VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Date: June 26-29, 2017 Place: Cross Lutheran Church and School Time: 8:30-Noon (Mon), 9-Noon (Tue-Thu) Contact: Alissa Bocek ([email protected]), Kayla Olson ([email protected]) or call the church office at 630553-7335. Click “Find a Sign Up” and search using [email protected]. This year Cross will be returning to reading during the summer months. We are asking that all future 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade read ONE Required Novel and ONE book of Choice. Students acquire new skills throughout the school year, but they can lose ground if learning stops during summer break. Fortunately, learning never has to stop. Students who read throughout the summer gain skills and develop a better understanding of language and the world around them. Please encourage them to experience the joy of reading, the doorway to all other learning. Informational packets have come home, keep an eye open for them! Book lists, public library links, book reviews and all forms can be found on my blog. www.mrsneyersreadingcorneratcross.blogspot.com Lost & found Our lost and Found box is overflowing! Cross Communiqué A Healthy beginning for Kindergarten The state of Illinois requires all children entering kindergarten to have a physical exam with proof of immunization, a dental exam, and a vision exam. You might want to begin scheduling these exams now, to avoid the last minute rush. If your child just had their annual physical or dental exam, your doctor can simply print the information onto the state form for you. The information does need to be on the state form, however; just going to “my charts” and printing out what is there is not in compliance with the requirements. Your doctor probably has the form, but you can get one from the school office or print one from the school website, if you are not sure. If your child requires a religious exemption waiver, those are also available from the office. The new state form does require that a doctor sign off on it, so if you need one, be sure to get it before visiting the doctor for your child’s annual physical. A letter alone is no longer considered adequate for a religious exemption. May 23, 2017 Making Summer Plans? If your child is entering kindergarten, 2nd grade, or 6th grade, be sure to make plans for some check-ups, as well! Here is a reminder of who needs what: Kindergarten: physical exam, dental exam, and vision exam 2nd Grade: dental exam 6th grade: Physical exam and dental exam All athletes need a sports physical on file. It is good for one full year, so you don’t need a new one for each sport. Both parents and athletes need to sign it. And while we are planning… plan to check off the parent questions and sign and date that portion of the physical form. Consider it a treasure hunt… here’s a hint… it’s about halfway through the form!
