WORLD Element
Well Aware:
Nutrition
Activity: Today the kids noticed the new food picture
cards in the dramatic play area. A group of children
were found with them spread across the table and
were naming them. Ms. Kim came along and discussed
healthy foods and how eating them makes your body
healthy and strong.
We learn to:
 Understand and identify “healthy” foods and where
they come from
We learn it by:
 Growing vegetables
 Discussing our daily snack foods
WORLD Element
Well Aware:
Movement and
Body Awareness
Activity: Today the three piece lady bug puzzles were
offered at the table. The kids came over right away and
started to experiment with the pieces. They positioned
and repositioned the pieces to successfully assemble a
ladybug!
We learn to:
 Strengthen and refine small muscles
We learn it by:
 Practicing small muscle skills like writing, cutting,
drawing, and painting
WORLD Element
Science Rocks:
Active Questioning
Activity: Outside by our hose hookup we have had a
couple of “resident” frogs make their home. Today the
kids couldn’t find them in their usual spots and wanted
to know “Where did they go?” Ms. Kristin checked
behind the clock, and there he was with a little “baby”
friend too! The kids were full of questions about
where the new one came from.
We learn to:
 Formulate “what, why, and how?” questions
We learn it by:
 Describing and discussing our observations and
experiences with teachers

WORLD Element
Our World:
Relationships with
Others
Activity: The children gathered at the climber and
played peek-a-boo. They laughed as they peered
through the holes and saw one another. They chased one
another up the steps, through the tunnel, and down the
slide, over and over again.
We learn to:
 Make friends and develop positive relationships
We learn it by:
 Playing in learning centers together
WORLD Element
Language Works:
Pre-Writing
Activity: We explored the plastic nuts and bolts
today. The children use pincer grasp to pick up the bolts
and carefully screw them into the nuts. With practice,
they are able to thread the bolt and nut together
successfully. This activity helps strengthen fine motor
skills.
We learn to:
 Develop pincer grasp to pick up small, yet safe
objects
We learn it by:
 Picking up small, yet safe objects
WORLD Element
Science Rocks:
Active Exploration
Activity: The acorns continue to fall, and the children
continue to find new ways to collect and store them.
Today, they started collecting them by hand, then used
the vehicles to store and transport them around the
playground.
We learn to:
 Use an object the vehicle) to complete a task
(storing and transporting the acorns)
We learn it by:
 Exploring materials that engage the senses

WORLD Element
Language Works:
Pre-Reading
Activity: The flannel board story sets were popular
today. The children took turns attaching them to the
Velcro board and naming the animals. Then, they
started to sing “Old McDonald” using the animals on the
board.
We learn to:
 Increase short term memory and recall
 Increase vocabulary
We learn it by:
 Participating in songs and finger plays
WORLD Element
Art Smart:
Dance/Creative
Movement
Activity: We spent time listening to music and moving
our bodies. We played the “Hokey Pokey”, which
required the children to listen to the song and
coordinate their movements. We also played “Five Little
Monkeys” and jumped up and down like the monkeys on
the bed. Chelsea pointed out the tempo of the songs
and asked the children to dance “slowly” and “faster”
according to the tempo.
We learn to:
 Develop increased body coordination and balance
 Move in deliberate, creative, unique ways
We learn it by:
 Playing games that require coordination
WORLD Element
Language Works:
Pre-Writing
Activity: While exploring the hexi-snaps, the children
used fine motor skills and coordination to line up the
edges and manipulate the pieces so that they would
snap together.
We learn to:
 Develop pincer grasp to pick up small objects
We learn it by:
 Picking up small, yet safe objects
 Assembling puzzles

WORLD Element
Science Rocks:
Active Exploration
Activity: Dirt was added to the small sensory box. The
children gathered to explore. They used different toolslike hoes, shovels, and scoops-so pick up the dirt and
move it around. They also drove the plastic vehicles
through the dirt and made tracks.
We learn to:
 Use an object as a tool to complete a task
We learn it by:
 Exploring materials that engage our senses
 Manipulating materials and tools
WORLD Element
Math Counts:
Numerical
Understanding
Activity: The Lego blocks were popular outside. The
children used small motor skills and coordination to line
up and press the blocks together. They make tower-like
structures using the blocks. Chelsea pointed out the
different colors in the tower and together, we counted
how many red, how many blue, and how many green
each tower had.
We learn to:
 Understand quantity
 Count to two or three
We learn it by:
 Hearing quantity labels expressed
 Teachers modeling language
WORLD Element
Science Rocks:
Active Questioning
Activity: We moved the clock to see if the resident frog
was hanging out there today! The children were excited
to see the frog! Then, one of the children found another
frog behind the hose. She held it in her hands. We
talked about the frogs that live in our back yard.
We learn to:
 Question when exploring
 Formulate “what, why, and how?” questions
We learn it by:
 Describing and discussing our experiences with
teachers
