Ray served as administrator, counselor, coach and mentor.
He brought boxing, wrestling & scouting to Miller. He became
known for the “State Boxing Tourney”, State Boxing & Wrestling
champs, Golden Gloves Champs & Eagle Scouts. He spent endless
hours and miles on these programs.
His teaching field was math and he was always available for help.
He knew all of his students by name and had two MHS annual
yearbooks dedicated to him. Ray was voted “S.D. School
Administrator of the Year” in 1970 by the State Association.
R. H. “RAY”
MURRAY
From humble beginnings, he was never concerned about
his popularity. His forte ‘was organizing, listening,
and then doing it exactly his way’.
Ray devoted his entire life to bringing out the very best in his athletes,
students, and teachers, with many of them staying in touch
the rest of their life-time. Fondly called “Murf”, he changed
Superintendent 1950-1970
many lives forever.
