MESSAGE:
WOW! What a great weekend we had at the Foundation Event! Kudos
to Doc, Gretchen, Susan, Henry, Cheryl, John, and EVERYONE that
worked so hard to make this event one of a kind and one to remember!
It was truly a combined effort event . . . from the pre-planning, PR, radio
talk shows, lighting /stage, prepping for singers/band, to PR, to the
awesome banners . . ALL OF IT!
It was truly ‘a little help from my friends’ that pulled this all together and
again made me look good . . . thank you.
It was an AWESOME way to Promote Rotary and show our appreciation
to our Key Largo Community and show what ROTARY is all about!!!
Our next event is . . . Ok, just kidding guys! I know I had you all scared
for a minute—didn’t I?? However our Installation is in June and as soon
as Cris and I schedule a date, we will share it with everyone. So take a
break while you can!!!
We now have our storage unit in place. Donnie F. built shelves and did A
LOT of TLC on our travelling trailer. Just a few final touches and we will
be back in service!
You all make me very proud to be a Rotarian! Thank you all for your hard
work and dedication to our Club. We work hard but we have FUN doing
it!!! We exemplify SERVICE ABOVE SELF!

Key Largo Rotary purchases library
books for Key Largo Schools’ media center
KEY LARGO, FL (March12th, 2015) The Key Largo Rotary Club has started a program to
stock the media center of Key Largo School with new books. “Each week, the Rotary Club
has a fantastic speaker, which we gave a token appreciation gift to” said Nancy Alvarez, Club
President. “The last thing anyone needs is other pen or paperweight, so we decided to get
creative.” The Club reached out to Tina Cash, Media Center Specialist at Key Largo School,
to get a list of their needs. Now, when a speaker is done presenting, they choose from a
stack of needed books, sign their name with an inspirational message to the kids, and that
book in then donated to the library. It’s a win-win-win for all concerned. This idea,
although new in its execution, is already being replicated at other Rotary Clubs within the
State.
About the Rotary Club of Key Largo:
The main objective of Rotary is service – to local communities, and throughout the world.
In addition to humanitarian efforts, the Rotary Club of Key Largo has contributed locally to
vocational and 4-year college scholarships, Habitat for Humanity, Coral Shores High School
sports programs, KLS Safety Patrols, Take Stock in Children, Key Largo YMCA and other
local youth and adult programs. Our recent service projects have benefited the Florida
Wild Bird Center and the Habitat for Humanity. Our ability to contribute to these worthy
causes comes from fundraising events such as this Backcountry Challenge.

Appreciation EVENT & Rotary Day
“Where Everybody Knows Your Name”!
Friday Night, April 17th, 2015 was a transformation back to the “Cheers’ Days . . . Rotary Club
of Key Largo with partnership from Community Bank kicked off A VIP concert at Doc’s Diner
featuring renowned Country Music Singer Songwriters Paul Overstreet and Scotty Emerick.
The famous local restaurant known as ‘Doc’s Diner” was transformed from eggs and bacon to
awesome lighting and sound stage by HNO Productions and our own Rotarian Henry
Menendez! Whoever could have imagined??? Tables were out – chairs, stools and guitars and
even a few cowboy hats and boots were ‘brought’ in. It was truly an intimate evening of
friends and residents!
The night was full of jokes, laughs, singing, hugging, and singing along with Paul to “When
you say nothing at all”! It truly reminded me of a small hometown where everybody did know
everybody’s name—and if not your name they recognized you from “somewhere”….
I think it brought Key Largo back home to that small town feeling, when times were simple
and reminded everyone how to have a great night on the islands and a night out with your
friends and locals.
I would be amiss if I did not mention the great food by ‘DOC’ and Corky and “The Conch
House”! Let’s not forget the awesome craft beer and wine selection. When is the Last time you
had an ‘honor’ bar??? (Not even ‘ Cheers’ did “that!”)! That means Rotary trusts you to pay for
your drink or bottle!!!
Then Saturday rolled around . . . by land or water . . . All our ‘friends’ met at the Caribbean
Club for an afternoon of sunshine, “Craig’s” famous fish sandwiches or massive cheeseburgers
and hot dogs by the Rotary Clubs very own by Chef Mike, John, and Patty! More music by our
locals Kenny Channels and The Colbert Band. Followed by Paul and Scotty....Nashville came
to Key Largo for the afternoon and u never had to leave the island!
The sun was out, the crowd was awesome and The Rotary Club of Key Largo showed Key
Largo and Visitors what ‘Rotary’ is all about during our Free Community Appreciation
Concert and Rotary Day…and having ‘FUN’!!
If you do not know what Rotary is or what they do…you do now!
“We are making a difference around the world and in our hometown!”
