Thank you for expressing an interest in our Night With A
Purpose event. We have designed our program in an effort
to enlist the youth in an energetic and dynamic method of
getting more involved with the missions program of their
church. Young people need to feel that missions is something
they can be personally involved in, doing more than just
passing an offering plate.
The program, because it is fun, also acts as an outreach to
get them to bring their friends to a church activity where they
can be directly exposed to the Gospel and to the church itself
and thereby develop a friendship with the church’s youth
leaders.
The purpose of our program is to raise funds for our
ministry’s administrative/operating needs. Most of the funds we receive are designated for a specific
national preacher, child, Bibles, etc. Administratively, we operate on a shoe-string budget. Typically,
while most “charities” utilize 20% to 50% of their income for “administration”; our ministry, year after year
through our audited financial reports, reveals that we utilize only 4% to 6%. If awards were given for
frugality, we would receive a Nobel Prize. We cut corners everywhere we can, but when you consider
we have over 2,000 total sponsorships in 74 countries, there really isn’t enough to go around. Combined
with that, we need funding to help preaches who are still on a waiting list to be sponsored, funds for
emergency relief, etc. The funding received from the Night With A Purpose events go to supply such
needs as these. At the same time, it benefits the local churches in their missions emphasis by motivating
their youth to get personally involved in raising funds for missions.
Several months ago I was looking at our historical financial records and realized that we began
experiencing tough times, when we stopped our NWAP program due to a staff shortage. As I was
contemplating reinstating the program, I received two phone calls, one from a pastor on the west coast
and one on the east coast; neither of them knew the other, yet both brought the subject up to me and
volunteered to help us by having a Night With A Purpose event for their youth groups. I saw this as
confirmation that we should launch this program again and I would love to get you involved. You may
have never done anything like this before, so let me quickly explain to you how it works. It is really quite
simple ...
1. We provide you with:
• Registration forms for the youth to participate
• Registration forms for the sponsors to pledge their donation amount
• Brochures for the sponsors so they will know what they are giving for
• Sponsors List Form so the youth can keep track with who is sponsoring them and
for how much per point
• Individual Score Forms for the youth to track their bowling scores
• The Leader’s Score Report where you can list the names and scores of all your kids
Thus, we give the youth leader all the paperwork he needs to have a successful and profitable and
Through the funding of national preachers, we endeavor to effectively advance the gospel where it has never been preached before.
easily managed event. We can even have a color poster to display in your church. (These cannot be
downloaded due to their size. One will be mailed to you upon your setting a date for the event.)
2. Once the youths register, they have a generous time period to recruit their sponsors. Since
the event is focused on bowling, we suggest that the participants bowl two or three games,
then use the highest score as a basis for the sponsorship. Sponsors will give 5, 10, 25 cents
or more per point.
3. After the bowling is over the youth go back to the church (or wherever) for an “all you can
eat” pizza party. Some churches have this in their gym and play basketball, dodge ball, etc.
Some even make it an all night event. (That is entirely up to the courage and mental
deficiencies of the youth leaders. We do not provide psychological counseling afterwards.)
The pizza and coke costs should be reimbursed to the church from the funds collected and
then just send us a check for the balance. We do ask the kids to pay for their own bowling if
possible.
4. The scoring records are then transferred to the report card given to each sponsor. The
sponsors are instructed to make their check out to your church. Once the pledges are
collected personally by the teen, they are given to the youth leader. Be sure before sending
us the check, that you have deducted your expenses for the activity.
•
Note: If you are doing this as a family, the checks should be made payable to Final
Frontiers and mailed to us so that we can issue the donors a tax exempt statement.
Please also include receipts for the event so that we can reimburse you for your
expenses.
5. Spruce up your event by offering cheap (or gag) awards for the highest scorer, luckiest
shot and least likely to ever bowl again. If these awards are given out during a church
service or Sunday School class, it gives attention to the efforts of the youth group and would
insure that any unsaved guest who participated will also attend the service at the church for
the “award ceremony”. (The awards list is pre-printed on the brochure. If you want to
exclude any of these, inform us and we will delete them and email you a custom brochure.
I know this will be an event to remember for your youth. We have churches that participated fifteen
years ago that still remind me of their event when we speak. It will also be an event that enables many
to preach the gospel with food in their stomachs and have Bibles to pass out, etc.
I am so glad you are interested in hosting a Night With A Purpose event. On this website you will
find masters for all the literature and forms you need. Feel free print them as needed. And do get in
touch with me if you have any other questions or if you wish to schedule an event.
Again, thank you for your consideration and help. You and your kids will really be making a difference
in the life of our ministry and the preachers we support.
Yours for souls,
Jon Nelms

PS
If you desire, you can deduct some of the funds raised to go towards your youth attending our
High Calling Adventure trip to Honduras ($600 per person plus airfare) or any other event you desire.
You can learn more about this overseas camping program at www.HighCalling.me
And here’s another fun idea ... why not challenge the youth of another church to compete
against you to see who can raise the most funds for missions.
