INCREDIBLE ICELAND 8 days 7 nights 2017 TENTATIVE DAY-TO-DAY ITINERARY Day One: Arrival in Reykjavik and transfer to our hotel in Hvanneyri Borgarfjörður where we stay for the next three nights. After check in we have time to relax and become familiar with our surroundings. This evening we will have a welcome dinner at the hotel. It is the country side so people can take a walk in the nature and also there is an agricultural museum next door to hotel. Welcome Dinner at hotel D. Day Two: Breakfast: 8:00am – 9:00am We will meet in the lobby at 9:15am for our departure. Today we’re off on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula Tour. Snæfellsnes Peninsula is a beautiful area located on the west side of Iceland, which offers many recreational activities. Our first stops, after reaching the peninsula, are at Gerðuberg, a columnar basalt cliff in Hnappadalur Valley, and Ölkelda, a natural spring of clean drinking water. We then continue around the peninsula and to the National Park. On our way we will stop at Arnarstapi and enjoy its extraordinary shores and scenery. Nature lovers enjoy the spectacular landscapes and peculiarities of the surroundings and spend time hiking and bird watching along the precipitous shoreline where it is quite common to see seals. Snæfellsjökull glacier is a dormant volcano, which attracts thousands of people each year. Some visitors assemble here regularly each summer to enjoy the energy radiation, as they believe it to be one of earth’s seven energy spots. 6:00pm: Return to the hotel. Dinner on your own this evening enroute back to the hotel. B. Day Three: Breakfast: 8:00am – 9.00am We meet in the lobby at 9:15am for our departure. We will drive to Hvalfjörður (Icelandic: Whale–fjord) which is situated in the west of Iceland between Mosfellsbær and Akranes. The fjord is approximately 30 km long and 5 km wide, see the old whale station and the old town of the whale station. Afterwards we go to our next destination; driving along Svínavatn, pass Dragháls and the beautiful Lake Skorradalsvatn. Shortly after, we will come to our next stop Deildartunguhver, one of the biggest hot springs in Iceland. Our next stop is Reykholt Village situated in the valley of the River Reykjadalsá, called Reykholtsdalur. About 20 km from Reykholt is the lava waterfalls Hraunfossar, one of the most interesting natural wonders on the island. 6:00pm: Return to the hotel. Dinner on your own this evening. B. www.yearroundtravel.com email: [email protected] Day Four: Breakfast: 8:00am – 9.00am This morning we check out and meet in the lobby at 9:15am for departure. Today we’re off on the Golden Circle classic tour. The Golden Circle tour takes us via Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where the tectonic plates of Europe and North America meet and one of the world's oldest parliaments was founded in 930 AD. We are then treated up close and personal to one of Iceland‘s largest personalities: Gullfoss (Golden Falls). Next up is Geysir geothermal area, home of the famous Geysir and Strokkur hot springs. The Strokkur hot spring erupts every 5 minutes or so, making it one of the most active geyser. On the way back to Reykjavik we’ll get a chance to visit Hellisheiði Power plant at the foot of Mt. Hengill Volcano where earth's most brutal forces are harnessed and converted to clean energy for space heating. 6:00pm: Return to the hotel in Reykjavik. Dinner on your own this evening. B. Day Five: Breakfast: 8:00am – 9.00am We meet in the lobby at 9:15am for departure. Today we enjoy a Reykjavik sightseeing tour. Reykjavík, also known, as “smoky bay”, is the world's northernmost capital. It is also one of the youngest and most vibrant cities of northern Europe. Reykjavik is full of life, culture and is colourful at any time of year. The city centre is small yet vibrant and easily navigated by foot. Visit the city's northern waterfront area, with a beautiful view of Reykjavik's landmark mountain, Mt. Esja. The striking sculpture Sun Voyager by Jon Gunnar Arnason, a massive steel creation made to resemble a Viking ship is located here. Visit Hallgrimskirkja church, Reykjavik's main landmark, its tower can be seen from almost everywhere in the city. We also see “The Pearl” (Perlan) a remarkable building, built in 1988, unique in Iceland and probably in the whole world. On Oskjuhlid hill, atop the huge tanks in which natural hot water is stored for heating the city, a glass dome has been constructed and under the dome is a rotating restaurant serving fine cuisine. We will have lunch on our own, and then we depart for the old harbour for an afternoon boat trip. The city tour from the sea allows us some bird watching and on the unique oak boat Lundi we’ll get an insight of Reykjavík from a different perspective. 5:30pm: Return to the hotel Reykjavik Dinner on your own this evening. B. www.yearroundtravel.com email: [email protected] Day Six: Breakfast: 7:00am – 8:10am. We meet in the lobby at 8:20am for an 8:30am departure. We’re off to see more spectacular scenery on Iceland’s South Coast & Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon tour. This tour takes us along the beautiful south shore of Iceland to the extraordinary glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón. Highlights include Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, Seljalandsfoss waterfall, and Skógafoss waterfall. Jökulsárlón (Glacier Lagoon) started to form in the early nineteen twenties and is getting bigger every year. You will see many amazing blocks of ice that have broken off Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajökull, as they sail slowly towards the ocean which is only a kilometer away. 9:00pm: Return to the hotel. Dinner on your own this evening B. Day Seven: Breakfast: 8:00am – 9.00am. We meet in the lobby at 9.15am for departure to The Blue Lagoon tour, (Don’t forget your bathing suits!) in the Krísuvík/Kleifarvatn— Geothermal area is our destination today. We Stop in Krísuvík where you can take a walk between the boiling mud puddles and smell the sulfates. The tour takes us to the largest lake on the Reykjanes Peninsula, Kleifarvatn. The lake is situated on the fissure zone of the MidAtlantic Ridge, one of the deepest lakes in the country, 97 meters. In the year 2000 the water level dropped dramatically after an earthquake. Today the lake level has recovered but on the south shore of the lake you can still see steam rising up from the border of the lake from numerous hot springs. On this site Clint Eastwood filmed Flags of our Fathers. Dip into the famous Blue Lagoon…. NOT to be missed when in Iceland! After having enjoyed all that the Blue Lagoon has to offer, we return to Reykjavík. 2:00pm: Return to the hotel. Free afternoon to do any last minute shopping or just enjoy Reykjavik on your own. Time to freshen up before meeting in the lobby for a 7:00pm departure for the Viking Village where we have our farewell dinner. 9:30pm. Return to the hotel. B. D. Day Eight: Breakfast 7:00am - 9:00am. Alas, all good things must come to an end. Today we check out of our hotel and transfer to the airport. Our flight brings us back to Toronto carrying many fine memories of this fabulous country. Limousine service will bring you back to your home. B. WELCOME HOME!
