Ohlone: the tribe of Native Americans who once lived in this area. Stewardship: the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care. Omnivore: an animal that eats both plants and animals. Sustainable: to only take from the earth what is necessary, and to give back what you can. Organic: not using chemicals to garden or farm. Symbiosis: A relationship between 2 organisms, which may or may not benefit both organisms. Ort: food left in your plate or drink left in your cup at the end of a meal. Oxygen: a chemical that animals need to breathe. It is released by plants. Vertebrate: an organism that has a backbone or spine. Photosynthesis: the process by which plants make their own food. Watershed: all the land that drains into a specific body of water. Precipitation: in the water cycle when it rains, snows or sleets.
