Job Description
A. Purpose
The Chapter Education Chair is elected by the members and serves as a voting member of the
Chapter Board for a two-year term. The Education Chairs plans, coordinates, and supervises
logistics for Chapter meetings and Education events.
B. Eligibility
1. Must be a Professional member in good standing.
2. Agree to sign the Chapter Volunteer Code of Conduct.
3. Must be able to attend Chapter and Board meetings during term of office (2 years).
4. Desirable (but not required) qualifications include:
a. Meeting and/or event planning experience.
b. Good attention to detail.
c. Able to plan ahead.
d. Likes to stay abreast of current trends in continuing education.
C. Authority
The Education Chair is given authority by the Chapter membership through election and as
specified in the National AMTA Bylaws, Policy and Chapter Standing Rules.
D. Accountability
The Education Chair is accountable to the membership by virtue of election and to the Chapter
Board and the membership through reporting activities. The Education Chair agrees to uphold
and abide by National AMTA Bylaws, Policy, Job Description, Chapter Volunteer Code of
Conduct, and Chapter Standing Rules (if applicable), and Financial Policies & Procedures.
E. Term of Office
Education Chair is elected every even year for a term of two (2) years or until a successor is
elected.
F. Relationships
The Education Chair works most closely with Chapter Board members and appointees, Chapter
staff or consultants, and National AMTA staff as appropriate. The Education Chair also
communicates with Chapter members, education committee members, and/or other
volunteers, as appropriate.
G. Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve as a voting member of the Chapter Board of Directors and as Chair of the Chapter
Education committee. Attend all Chapter meetings and Chapter Board meetings, as scheduled.
The Chapter Board meets three times per year for face-to face meetings, and conducts three
teleconferences per year. The Board also conducts business in between meetings via e-mail.
2. Develop and submit to the Chapter board, a plan and proposed budget for Chapter meetings
and educational events for the coming year.
3. Assure that at least 60% of the educational events sponsored by the Chapter are eligible for
continuing education credit.
4. Coordinate logistics of Chapter meetings and educational events and the activities of Chapter
members participating in these events.
5. Preside over meetings of the Education committee.
a. Supervise and facilitate the work of committee members.
b. Prepare and submit proposals of the committee to the Chapter board.
c. Be available to receive feedback from the members for input to committee deliberations
and to communicate, in an informed manner, information regarding actions of the
committee.
6. Prepare and deliver all required reports to the Chapter board.
7. Operate within the bylaws, policies, programs and Strategic Plan of AMTA and the Chapter
standing rules.
8. Treat proprietary and other confidential information in a responsible manner.
9. Responsibly manage allocated funds per AMTA policy.
