Girl Effect is a creative, social business purposed to positively impact the lives of adolescent
girls and break the cycle of intergenerational poverty in developing countries. Working at
the cutting edge of the international development and media sector, we’ve built a culture that
is entrepreneurial and fast paced.
Established by the NIKE Foundation in 2008, we became an independent organisation in
September last year with ongoing funding by NIKE and a number of high, profile, high net
worth partners.
What We Do
We build mass media brands, with mobile interactivity and the use of ‘safe spaces’, to engage girls and key influencers
in their lives to effect social norm change by breaking down barriers that prevent girls from accessing the services and
support they need to progress. By doing this, we enable girls to have a voice in determining their future and make choices
that have a direct impact in unleashing their potential.
It’s a fresh approach to international development, but one that is gaining ground and captured the interest of bot
investors and the development community.
Based in London, we have highly regarded and visible brands in Ethiopia and Rwanda, new collaborations in Nigeria and
plans to launch in Malawi, Indonesia and India in 2017. In addition, our mobile platform, GEM (a collaboration
with Facebook), is now live in 24 languages across more than 40 countries.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are offering six month internships to two suitable individuals to be based at our Soho offices. The intern programme
