Our inaugural event’s esteemed author is: Mr Simon Smith THE AUTHOR Simon Smith is a lawyer and historian, and is currently an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the Faculty of Law, Monash University. In a professional life spanning four decades, he has worked as a community legal centre lawyer, university teacher, ombudsman, senior executive in financial services and insurance industry archivist. Simon is the author of numerous articles in the fields of consumer protection, legal practice and alternative dispute resolution. His previous books include In the Consumer Interest, From Club to Corporation: Motor Insurance and the rise of AAMI 1933-1999 and Maverick Litigants. Simon has a B. Juris, LL.M and PhD (Legal History) from Monash University, Melbourne. Simon will be available for signing. THE BOOK $40 Mr Smith will be discussing his book, Barristers Solicitors Pettifoggers: Profiles in Australian Colonial Legal History. In the two hundred and twentyfive years since 1788, lawyers have carved out a prominent and respected place in the life of Australia. It has not always been so.
