Each response must be at least half a page, typed, double-spaced, size 12 font.
1. Explain how the novel is set up and formatted. Discuss how Shelley’s decisions to set up
the novel this way impacts the telling of the story.
2. How is the novel a cautionary tale? What are the cautionary lessons that Shelley provides
to her readers?
3. Explain the role of nature in the novel.
4. Explain any Biblical connections in the novel.
5. Explain your reaction to the creature as a character: Do you sympathize with him? Does he
change?
6. Discuss the differences between Robert Walton and Victor Frankenstein.
7. Research one of the following allusions and explain why Shelley would choose to reference
the character/story in the novel: Prometheus, Paradise Lost, “Rime of the Ancient Mariner”
8. Identify a theme in the novel and explain how the theme is developed (note: a theme is not
a single word).
