The Stampede usd105 Robots Gone Wrong The Computer Technology class has been learning about how computers developed from a 100 foot 30,000 pound monster machine into a computer that you can hold in your hand. After several days of learning things about the computer they were instructed to write a program to have a robot make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They had to develop a set of instructions that a “new robot” could understand, such as open hand, close hand, grasp object and scoop. The task of making a sandwich was seen in a new light. The instructions which took much longer than the students anticipated and sometimes were surprised that some instructions were missing an important command such as, “ take lid off of peanut butter.” Through this activity the students gained insight and some appreciation for those people that created and developed our computers of today. Top right: Marshall Eckoff ( robot) follows the instructions that are given . The instruction to put down the objects were never given. Right & left: Mattie Higley instruct Justin Engel and Neil Portschy ( robots) as they try to follow the programmers instructions. Justin was told to put Discovery of Sewer Lice? Mrs. Henry welcomed back her 8th grade science class with some humor this week. She soaked raisins in Mtn. Dew and told her class that these newly discovered “specimens” were sent to her by her scientist friend. These so called “specimens” were lice that had evolved in sewers from eating bacteria. She informed her students that these lice were going to be used as a new food source for humans. She did this so that the students would learn how to make careful observations without being bias. After, she asked if anyone would like to try one, one student volunteered. He tasted the “specimen” and realized what it was, so then he too was in on the joke as other students were repulsed.
