Message from the Rotary Career Symposium (RCS) Co-Chairs of the Board of Directors
Constant and accelerating change challenge future generations. New career opportunities
take flight every day reaching new heights in technology and innovation. We must educate and
enable ourselves to promote the importance of education leading to industry needs. We must
encourage students to be thought leaders, through the creation, improvement and disruption of
current technologies and processes. This will be where the jobs of today and tomorrow will exist.
As parents, counsellors or teachers guiding today’s youth or job seekers, you know firsthand
how fast our world is moving for the leaders of today and tomorrow. We can only help to
prepare them for the challenges they will face in finding ways to successfully move forward.
All those who work to create the RCS appreciate your efforts and want to assist you and your
children, students or clients as they seek out information to make informed career decisions.
The goal of our Symposium is to provide opportunities to explore and discover career opportunities, through experiential activities and quality information from exhibitors with relevant
knowledge. Each year there are new additions to the RCS to improve the experience for our
guests and this one is no exception as we introduce:
•Creation of a special evening that encourages parents and students to explore the possibilities
together through Manitoba Career Prospects and a keynote address from Jayson Dzikowicz,
Performance Coach and President of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Alumni Association,
Entrepreneur
•Google cardboard will provide an inside look into virtual reality technology
•Career Chats will add 20 career speakers in fast and informative sessions
•Job Boards allows students and job seekers alike to apply for current employment opportunities
The Rotary Clubs of Winnipeg, in partnership with the Manitoba School Counselors’
Association and through support from The Province of Manitoba present the Rotary Career
Symposium (RCS) as a service to assist Manitoba youth with decisions ahead of them. We
strive to complement schools’ career development initiatives by providing students with
opportunities to gather information used in career and educational planning. The Symposium
is a venue where students can visit displays, attend speaker sessions and meet business and
education leaders to learn more about career and education opportunities. Attendees should
also bring resumes as there will be job counselors and exhibitors looking for employees. They
may even be able to find their first job!

SPEAKER SESSIONS
•During the two-day Symposium, there are over 30 speaker sessions highlighting various careers.
•Each session features a 20-minute presentation and a 10-minute Q&A.
•Speaker Sessions provide firsthand accounts of “A Day in the Life” of selected careers. They describe a typical day its challenges, opportunities and how the speaker found the industry.

The first-time speaker at the Rotary Career Symposium hopes his story will inspire young people to work towards

Join industry professionals for 15 minute round table chit chats about their careers. This initiative will help
students get the answers they are looking for. Students can chat one on one, or in a group to find out what’s
new and exciting in a variety of career settings in the Civil Service.

Students can access the Jobs for Now profile board with real need-to-be-filled part-time and full-time jobs in
Winnipeg; and a Jobs for Future profile board with career jobs from local and global employers to stimulate
post-secondary educational choices. Career coaches from Youth Employment Services will be on hand to counsel
students about preparing job applications and approaching booths at the Career Symposium to practice the art
of networking.

Interested in Technology?
Think about a career in the Technology sector while you experience virtual reality in a simple, fun, and hands-on
way with our Google Cardboard station in Career Discovery at RCS. Cardboard is Google’s do-it-yourself gateway
into virtual reality, letting you strap your phone into a cardboard shell (with a couple of lenses) and immerse
yourself in 3D worlds.
Excited to try it? Download these suggested Apps, Google Cardboard, Rollercoaster VR and Jurassic VR, on your

Career Discovery - Experience Careers in Modern Manufacturing
TUESDAY, MAY 3 & WEDNESDAY, MAY 4 - 9:00AM - 3:00PM - 3RD FLOOR
Visit the Career Discovery activity centre and learn more about exciting careers in modern manufacturing
in Manitoba.
With hands-on activities, each activity station will simulate a step in the manufacturing cycle. Students will begin
with design, moving then to experience and learning about the many steps of the build process, and what it takes to
complete a project in the final assembly stage of the building process.
Career Discovery showcases a variety of workplace technologies and high demand careers available in the modern
world of manufacturing; all while having the opportunity to talk with industry professionals.

TUESDAY, MAY 3 & WEDNESDAY MAY 4 - 11:30AM - 12:30PM - 3RD FLOOR
The Engineering Innovation Challenge invites you to design, build and test models to win great prizes!
Past challenges have had students building catapults to launch marshmallows, towers to support large amounts of
weight, a structure to protect a dropped egg and more!
Sign up before 11:00am at the Information Booth (612) located on the 3rd floor of the Convention Centre on May 3
& 4. The Challenge runs from 11:30AM - 12:30PM. Look for the hanging sign on the south side of the 3rd floor.

Attending the RCS – From Arrival to Departure
1. Registration Booth
If you haven’t already received them in the mail, teachers can pick up wristbands for your school or purchase
entrance tickets on the 2nd floor of the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg (375 York Ave. Entrance) when you arrive.
All pre-registered schools will receive their wristbands in the week prior to the symposium. Teachers must pick-up
their badges at the registration booth.
2. Lunch
There is no need for the students to leave the premises for lunch or food items. A designated lunch area for
students to bring a bagged lunch or to purchase reasonably priced food will be located on the 3rd floor.
3. Assist & Supervise Your Students
Please remain available and visible for your students. It is suggested that students should meet their counsellors
or teachers to ensure that all students are receiving the maximum benefit from the speaker sessions and visits to
the booths. Choose and inform your students of a specific time and place to meet.

School buses should unload and load in the loading zone directly in front of the York Avenue entrance.
Rotary Career Symposium wristbands are required for all controlled access points.
All pre-registered schools will receive their student wristbands in the week prior to the Symposium.
Teacher badges will not be pre-distributed. Teachers are required to check in at the registration booth
to confirm arrival of their students and verify the number of counsellors/teachers on-site as supervisors.
Please remember that at least one teacher/counsellor must attend for every 30 students.
