Kahakai Principal’s message Dear Parents, Guardians and Students, As we enter our last month of the school year, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for your strong support of our school, faculty, staff and students. I often mention (and the data verifies) that a school is only as strong as the parents who support it. This support is most critical in addressing student attendance. Recently the U.S. reached a milestone in secondary education. For the first time in history eighty percent of high school students graduated on time (in four years) with Hawaii at eighty two percent . There were several reasons for this accomplishment; creating a stronger bond between school and the world of work, breaking up large high schools into smaller more relevant academies, and most importantly, improved student attendance in the elementary and middle schools. This is another example of why strong parent involvement in their child’s education is so critical. If we are to improve student achievement and foster life-long learners, it is imperative that we build strong partnerships with our parents and community. To this end, I encourage you to stay in touch with your child’s teacher. If you have questions or concerns please contact them directly or through our office. I have requested that our teachers be the first line of contact between the school and the home. In line with our school’s Vision Statement that “the students of Kahakai will be career and college ready life-long learners, who contribute positively to our community and global society. Imua Kahakai”, it is important that this communication goes both ways. Sincerely, James Denight ALOHA KEIKI RUN Saturday, June 18, 2018 Remember to come out and SUPPORT KAHAKAI.
