ASAA/First National Bank 2015 2A/Mix 6 Volleyball State Championships Policies & Procedures Dates: Location: Thursday, Dec. 3 - Saturday, Dec. 5 Dimond High School - Anchorage Qualifying Process: Each conference hosts a conference tournament in which the following berths are decided: MIX 6 TOURNAMENT • North Slope Conference – 1 berth • Northwest Arctic Conference – 1 berth • Kuskokwim Conference – 2 berth • Southwest Conference – 1 berth • Yukon River Conference – 1 berth • Western Conference – 2 berths • Southeast Conference – 2 berth • Denali Conference – 2 berth 2A TOURNAMENT • Aurora Conference – 1 berth • Borealis Conference – 2 berths • Southeast Conference – 2 berths • Southwest Conference – 2 berths • Western Conference – 1 berth 2A State Championship Tournament Structure: The championship will be a single elimination with the first day winners competing in the “winners bracket” and the first day losing teams will compete in a “consolation bracket”. Second day losing teams in the consolation bracket are eliminated and do not play a 7th/8th place game. Mix 6 State Championship Tournament Structure: The Mix 6 Championship will consist of 12 teams. Day one will be pool play of 4 pools of 3 teams. Day two and three will be an 8 team single elimination with the first day winners competing in the “winners bracket” and the first day losing teams will compete in a “consolation bracket”. • The third place teams from each pool will not play on Friday and will play pool play on Saturday. These games will be 2 Games to 25 with no cap. • Championship Bracket Seeding will be based on the following: 1. Pool Play Win-Loss record 2. Head to Head Win-Loss record 3. Head to Head Point Differential (up to 20) 4. Overall Point Differential (up to 25) 5. The rotation is posted online on the Volleyball State Information page at ASAA.org. Game times for first round play will be announced on the ASAA.org Monday. Rules: 2015-16 NFHS Volleyball rules will be utilized. In additional, the ASAA Supplemental Rules for Mix 6 will be used (located on Page 110 of the 2015+16 ASAA Handbook. 2015 ASAA 2A/MIX 6 VOLLEYBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS POLICIES & PROCEDURES Mandatory Coaches Meeting: There is a mandatory coaches meeting on Thursday for all Head coaches. State policies and procedures will be reviewed, coaches packets, and passes will be dispersed. Team Rosters: Coaches must verify official rosters at the coaches meeting. A copy of submitted roster is included in the coaches’ packet. If there are any changes to roster (name, jersey number), turn in a corrected roster at that time. Following that meeting, no changes to roster personnel may be made. If jersey numbers change, coaches must notify scorekeepers and announcer prior to the start of the game. Pre-Tournament Practice: Practice times prior to the State Tournament have been reserved for Wednesday at Dimond from 10am until 3pm. Practice times will be posted on the website Monday. To schedule your team for a practice time, please e-mail Sandi Wagner at ASAA ([email protected]) with your preferred time. All effort will be made to accommodate your wish on practice time, however there are only so many times available. Volleyballs: A colored panel ball will be used for all matches and available for warm ups. ASAA will provide practice and game volleyballs. Passes: Team participant passes will be based on submitted team roster including a manager formula. Coach/Adult passes will be issued based on a formula and certified coaches on staff. Details can be found on page 123 of the ASAA Handbook, in the State Championship Policies. Looker Rooms: Dimond High School has locker rooms, however school is in session so they are not available all the time. Please consult tournament management for locker room access. Bench Area & Personnel Rules: • Bench personnel is not allowed to exceed the amount of passes issued. • ONLY team participants and coaching staff are allowed in the bench area. • Non-roster players are not allowed on the bench unless fulfilling a managerial role with a pass. • Any coach who is ejected in a previous game may NOT be in the facility for the next game. • Any players ejected in a game must sit for the next game, under adult supervision, and can be on the bench, but NOT in uniform. • Due to safety concerns it has been mandated by ASAA that only individuals of high school age or above may be on the sidelines/bench area during state championship competition. Yearbook and School/Team Photo/Video: These individuals must remain in the spectator areas. School yearbook staff please contact Fitzgerald Photography to secure photos for use in your yearbooks which he is willing to provide for free. Video service of each game will not be provided by ASAA. Teams are encouraged to make other arrangements if they wish a video copy of their game. If present in non-spectator areas, they will be removed. Only ASAA Credentialed Media are allowed to by outside the spectator area. Results: All results will be posted online as soon as possible during or following the events each day. Access will be on the Volleyball section of the ASAA.org website. Event Supervision: Each participating school will be requested to identify an Administrator or other person approved in advance by the Principal who is responsible for the conduct of its coaches, participants and fans throughout the contest, as defined in the ASAA bylaws Article 6, Section 4. Please have the designees check in with ASAA staff upon arrival at the event. Spectator Etiquette: All spectators are restricted to the spectators areas. The tournament director and ASAA officials are empowered to remove anyone displaying unacceptable conduct from the area and may temporarily suspend the meet, if necessary. NWD will have a large variety of apparel and feature on-site printing with customized made to order commemorative items. A web store is also available online at ASAA.org/store. Awards: Awards are presented at the end of each separate tournament. Team Awards: • 1st and 2nd Place Team Trophies • Academic Award for each tournament. • Sportsmanship Award for each tournament Individual Awards: • Medals for members of the first and second place teams. • Medals for the ten members of the All-Tournament Team. • Certificates for the Good Sport Team athletes. • Awards for outstanding hitter, setter, defensive. Participation Fee: The Board of Directors has authorized the assessment of a participation fee for all state championships and festivals. The fee for athletic teams will be $10 per student participant with a maximum fee of $150 for those teams of 15 or more participants. Each team must provide all their own materials and supplies – including tape if athletes are going to be taped. The four teams that are scheduled to play the next scheduled game will be permitted to warm-up for 20 minutes prior on the warm up court. Home/Visitor: The team at TOP of bracket is HOME, team at BOTTOM of bracket is VISITOR. Clock: The warm up time on the playing court before your scheduled match will go as follows. If matches are running behind teams will have a minimum of 16 minutes to warm up on the playing court. • 20:00 - Start clock when the previous match has ended and teams have vacated their benches if running on time. No game will start before the scheduled time. • IF RUNNING ON TIME OR AHEAD - 20+ minutes are allowed before the scheduled time of the match. Meeting of officials with captains and coaches can occur during this time period if running ahead in time. No game will start before the scheduled time. • IF RUNNING BEHIND - Clock will start at 16 minutes after captains and coaches meet right after the conclusion of the prior game. • 16:00 - Receiving team gets court for warm-ups. • 8:30 - Serving team gets court for warm-ups. • 1:00 - Both teams report to bench for instructions. Introductions: • Thursday & Friday: No introductions and announcements • Saturday - Championship Games Only - All players will be introduced each game • Following introductions, players circle past net to shake hands with opponents and return to bench for one minute. Pledge of Allegiance / National Anthem: This is happen at the beginning of each day and before the championship games, unless otherwise noted by ASAA Tournament Staff.
