• Incident Summary
• In October 2012, while a Resupply vessel was on transit to the Survey area (having
refuelled at sea away from the location) , she was boarded by 7 armed men at 38
Nautical miles south of Brass waters Bayelsa State.
• The crew consisting of 7 expatriates and 9 Nigerians who secured themselves in the
Citadel room of the vessel.
• The armed men on boarding the vessel broke the bridge windscreen and gained
entry into the vessel bridge and accommodation area and using a grinding machine
broke into the Citadel room.
• The armed men abducted all the expatriate officers on the vessel consisting of 6
Russians and 1 Estonian.
• Valuables and food items were all stolen by the pirates.
• Within 36-48 hours the Resupply vessel was escorted back to Port with 6 Nigerian
Navy on-board and all the 9 Nigeria crew.
• After an extended period of negotiation phase, the expatriates were released in the
good health and repatriated. after sixteen days of detention.
