Mission to Berlin with author Robert F. Dorr
Tuesday, January 13
1:00 PM
Author Robert Dorr will share stories from various points of view of a WW II long-range strategic
bombing mission, including those from the pilots and aircrew, ground crew and escort fighters.
This is a free drop in program for all ages.
AIR FORCE TIMES - Review of Mission to Berlin by Robert F. Dorr
"Told largely in the vivid words of the veterans themselves, the story puts you in the freezing-cold
cockpit for a white-knuckle mission over heavily fortified enemy territory.
MILITARY HISTORY - Review of Mission to Berlin by Robert F. Dorr
"In this fascinating volume, noted aviation historian Dorr uses official records, personal memoirs
and first-person interviews to bring to vivid life the American airmen who braved flak, fighters,
altitude and the elements to pound Adolf Hitler's capital into rubble and hasten the end of the
Third Reich."
Robert F. Dorr is an author (since 1955), an Air Force veteran (1964-89) and a retired senior
American diplomat (1964-89) who has published about 75 books and thousands of magazine
articles on history, military operations and aviation. He writes the weekly Back Talk opinion
column for Air Force Times newspaper and the monthly Washington Watch feature for Aerospace
America magazine.

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
To help him find the perfect wife, handsome but nerdy genetics professor Don Tillman
designs a detailed questionnaire to weed out undesirable candidates. Though brilliant,
Professor Tillman is somewhat lacking in social skills. He always gets a first date but never
a second. Enter savvy bartender Rosie Jarman who wants to find out the identity of her
biological father. Will Don and Rosie be able to combine their skills to accomplish their
goals or will their partnership be a disaster? Australian author Simsion scores a hit with
this quirky, hilarious popular romantic comedy.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane
by Neil Gaiman
It began for our narrator forty years ago when the family lodger stole their car
and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Dark
creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our
narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and menace unleashed –
within his family and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it. His only
defense is three women on a farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them
claims that her duck pond is ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang.
The Brit Lit Book Club is all about the setting. We read a variety of genres,
but they are all set in the British Isles. New members are always welcome!
Drop in; no registration required. Light refreshments are provided by the
Friends of Chinn Park Regional Library.

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
A young boy in New York City, Theo Decker, miraculously survives an accident that takes
the life of his mother. Alone and abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by a friend's
family and struggles to make sense of his new life. In the years that follow, he becomes
entranced by one of the few things that remind him of his mother: a small, mysteriously
captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the art underworld. Composed with
the skills of a master, The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America,
and a drama of almost unbearable acuity and power. It is a story of loss and obsession,
survival and self-invention, and the enormous power of art." - Provided by publisher.
