Readings for September 21
Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time God’s generosity
Reading I:
Isaiah 55:6-9 Seeking the Lord
Reading II:
Philippians 1:20-24, 27 Spreading the gospel
Gospel:
Matthew 20:1-16 The laborers in the vineyard
Key Passage: The landowner said, “Take what belongs to you and go; I choose to
give to this last the same as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do
what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I
am generous?” (Matthew 20:14–15)
Adult: What lessons do you draw from today’s Gospel? How has God been generous to you in this way?
Child: Who is generous to you, even when you do not always deserve it?

Welcome
Saylor Grace Orcel
who was baptized last
weekend into the
Saint Margaret parish
community. May she
continue to receive
God’s blessings and
grace.
Brothers and sisters:
Christ Jesus, though he was in the form
of God, did not regard equality with
God something to be grasped.
Rather, he emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
coming in human likeness;
and found human in appearance,
he humbled himself, becoming obedient death, even death on a cross.
Because of this, God greatly exalted
him and bestowed on him the name
that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bend, of those in heaven and
on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God
the Father.
Philippians 2:6-11

Dear friends,
I am pleased to
share that the major
project on our parish church is very
close to completion.
Barring any unforeseen problems, the
church will re-open next weekend,
September 20-21. We as a parish can
be very proud of this. I am grateful to
all of you who contributed financially
to enable this to happen. I am also especially grateful to the Finance Committee, the Facilities Committees, and a
special ad hoc Art Advisory Committee for their careful planning and oversight of this project.
When you enter the church, you will see:
•
•
•
•
•
•
New glass doors with liturgical designs on the glass.
A completely new look behind the
sanctuary. There are three sections
of wall in this area. The two side
sections have been finished in a
faux-stained glass and the center
section in a faux-gold leaf.
A crucifix suspended from the
ceiling in front of the center wall
section of the sanctuary. The image of the crucified Christ was designed and fabricated by an artist in
Colombia, South America and the
wood cross was constructed by a
liturgical art professional in Pennsylvania.
New lighting from above and below on the three sections of wall
behind the sanctuary and on the
crucifix.
The relocation of the image of the
Risen Christ. It is suspended from
the ceiling in front of the organ
pipes at the rear of the seating area.
The full exposure of the stained
glass skylight in the baptistery.
This was done as part of the roof
project.
You will not see:
• A new roof. All flat roofing areas
have been replaced and built with a
sufficient pitch to provide proper
drainage. The metal mansard or
side roofing is in good condition
and did not need replacement.
• A new air conditioning system.
This system includes new controls
that should help us to regulate the
temperature better and make the
church more comfortable.
• A new boiler and heating system.
This also was installed in the mechanical room under the chapel
where the air conditioning system
is located. It will be ready when
the cold weather comes. There are
new controls as well for heating the
church.
Patronize Our Sponsors
The bulletin is furnished to the parish without charge. The advertisements that appear
completely defray all publishing costs with
which the church would otherwise be burdened. Please patronize these sponsors as a
thank-you for their kind generosity.
Treasure Hunt
“Treasure Hunt” is
a children’s ac tivity bulletin. This
month’s bulletin
is available throughout the month at
the doors. We encourage your child to
take home after Mass.
Bulletin Due Date and Address
Information is due by 10:00 am on Monday
for the following Sunday. If Monday is a holiday, items should be submitted the previous
Friday. Please include name and contact information and fax to 410-879-2518 or e-mail
[email protected].
The total cost for this entire project is $1.4 million. The overwhelming majority of this was for the items
you will not see – key parts of the infrastructure. The liturgical enhancements in the sanctuary account for
only 10% of the total cost. Please
also recall that this is Phase 1 of the
total church project. Other things
need to be done and are in the overall plan for the repair and renovation
of our church, such as new and adequately sized bathrooms, re-location of
Reconciliation Rooms because of the
new bathrooms, Stations of the Cross,
and conversion of the baptistery into
a gathering space. We will undertake
Phase 2 in the future as soon as it is
financially prudent to do so.
I again thank everyone who has been
part of these very significant accomplishments.
May the peace and joy of the Lord
be with you!
Father Mike

“Home” Work – Part 2
As we continue our “home” work in
preparation for the following weekend’s Scripture readings, we look at
the words and phrases themselves –
they can provide a key to what the author
may have felt to be of greater importance.
• In Isaiah 62:3 you read “You shall be a
glorious crown . . . a royal diadem.” Crown
and diadem refer to the same thing and
this echo adds strength to the idea.
• Words that sound like what they mean
add emphasis and meaning to the writing.
“Ask” is okay but “implore” is stronger
and paints a more vivid picture.
• Word value - the effectiveness of a
word to express the exact shade of meaning desired – can conjure up distinct images. “House” and “home” both mean
dwelling, yet each one communicates different feelings.
