Greetings all, Once again I am carrying out our staff appraisals. To me this is one of the high points of the year, although extremely busy and intense. I enjoy seeing the staff carrying out their teaching roles and the other tasks they perform also come into it, especially their participation in on-going professional development. I also like to see how well the children are engaged and inclusive in their work. Are they making progress? Are they learning? Does the classroom support and reflect their latest teaching and learning? At the end of the process, I then report to the BoT on this operational and many other 'day to day' and longer term issues. Although I have not yet finished staff appraisals, I am highly impressed. I hasten to add that I am not expecting anything less from the remaining staff to be observed. You can be assured that your trust in our school and staff is justified and in our ability to deliver a balanced curriculum which I am willing to bet is second to none. Sure this is my opinion, but it is based on 30yrs experience in over a dozen schools from year one to year eight including special education teaching. Now that I have finished skiting.... to the more mundane. Last week we foreshadowed a survey coming home today. Please take the time to fill this out. It will be very much appreciated. It is about you and your child's cultural comfort and how we as a school can address any issues to become more inclusive in our school community. It is about recognising, in a balanced way, our cultural heritage whether it be Pakeha, Pasifika, Asian, Maori, Indian or whatever. Thank you in advance. What a difference it makes to have our students reading to adults in our Parent Reading Programme. These students have made great gains in their reading. However, we only have two mothers running this programme plus another who can help part of the time. We would love to have more adults helping—parents, caregivers, grandmothers, grandfathers, etc. Even if you could only help 1 or 2 days a week. The Parent Reading Programme takes place every Monday to Thursday 9.00am to approximately 9.40am. Please contact the school office if you could possibly spare some time to help. Nieske Gordon.
