For the Teacher:
The Marbury vs. Madison landmark Supreme Court
case has long been touted as one of the most
important decisions made by the highest court in the
United States. This case established the authority of
the federal court system by creating the power of
Judicial Review. The Marbury case is often difficult for
students to understand due to the many individuals
involved in the case, as well as the multiple roles
played by important government leaders such as John
Marshall and Thomas Jefferson. This chart is intended
to help your students organize information about each
person involved in this important case. The “Tweet
About It” activity on the last page of this packet is
designed to require students to summarize their
knowledge of the case, and present it in such a way
that they can (hopefully) remember it!
