Principal, Mr. Edward (Woody) Bradford
Welcome Back from Mrs. Lainchbury ~ It is my pleasure to welcome all staff, students, and parents back to school and its rou8nes. As Mr. Bradford is at a Leadership Conference this week, I am stepping in as Ac8ng Principal here at Auguston Tradi8onal Elementary School. I have had a warm welcome, and am very appreciaCve of this excepConal learning environment. One of the ten tenets of the tradiConal school is a 'strong focus on academic achievement'. This has been clearly modeled this week by all staff as they are providing effecCve classroom instrucCon to the students. During my classroom visits, students have demonstrated their commitment to learning by their focus on the instrucCon and assignments. Auguston TradiConal School has proven that it is a place of academic learning and success.
Beyond the academics, there is so much more to Auguston TradiConal School! Some students have been parCcipants of various Aboriginal presentaCons; they have learned Salish weaving techniques, made paddle necklaces, played Aboriginal board games, have made an Aboriginal parfleche, or are looking forward to an upcoming presentaCon. In their Physical EducaCon class, they are learning the skills of hockey through various games. I have seen many examples of students learning from each other, and helping one another when needed. Students have also enjoyed the warm sunny weather, playing outside at recess and lunch with safety, kindness and respect. It has been a pleasure geEng to know the staff, students, and parents of the Auguston Tradi8onal community. I am grateful for my 8me here, and wish everyone the best as they con8nue to grow as teachers and learners.

PAC News
JEANS DAY WALK‐A‐THON
We are doing our second, annual, school‐wide Walk‐a‐thon on Jeans Day, Thursday, April 24. We will be raising money as a school for BC Children’s Hospital. Many of our Auguston TradiConal families have used the services at BC Children’s Hospital and it is a very worthy cause. Last year our school did an incredible job and raised over $15,000.00! We are excited to see all that our school community can do this year! Our fantas8c teachers and principal have come on board and they are helping out with some fun and crazy incen8ves to urge us on to match, and hopefully even pass, what we earned last year! We will let you know what they are willing to do next week when we hand out the pledge forms … Hint … someone might be eaCng something a likle icky and someone might be wearing something a likle different! There will be a treat for the top primary and intermediate class as well. Pledge Forms and more informa8on will be going home with students on Tuesday, April 8th.
The Dress Code Commikee is evaluaCng if there is a need for a referendum this year. They want to hear your thoughts. They have put a Sugges8on Box on the PAC board and they’d love to get feedback about anything that you feel needs to be tweaked in our Dress Code. You can also email your suggesCons to [email protected]. This is a great chance to have input!
This is the month, and the 24th is the big day for our ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The 8me is 6:30 pm and childcare is provided (the kids have a blast!). As a parent, how do you know what skills and knowledge are really important for school success?
Should you be teaching lekers? What is more important for developing prinCng, playing with cars on the floor or pracCcing leker formaCon? Kindergarten teachers & community partners in Abbotsford are having open houses at local schools (of which Auguston is one!). Please join us!
Parents, and their children born in 2009 or 2010 are invited to come to a RSL event here at Auguston. Every child will be given a bag of learning supplies. Parents will be given resources and ideas about how to support their child in using these materials. One of the most important things you can do to make sure that your child is successful at school, is to be involved!
Auguston Tradi8onal’s RSL event for 3 & 4 year olds is on Monday, April 28th
An email was sent to Parents of New Kindergarten students for September 2014 with informaCon about signing up for the 4 year old RSL session and asking for a response in a request for morning OR aiernoon for their session. Thank you new K parents for your responses. The one hour session 8mes will be sent out via email next week.
We would like to know how many 3 year olds will be akending our RSL event on April 28th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. so we can anCcipate the supplies needed. Please note that specifically for RSL, 3 year olds are considered children born Jan, 1 ‐ Dec. 31, 2010, and 4 year olds are born Jan. 1 ‐ Dec. 31, 2009. Parents, please let us know by next Friday, April 11th, if you and your 3 year old child plan to aeend the RSL event on April 28th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thank you.
Are you moving?
In order to begin our planning for the 2014/2015 school year, we would like to know how many students will be leaving us at the end of this year. We ask that if you are moving, you would please return this slip to the school office or email Mrs. Tait at [email protected] (for students currently in Grades K‐4). Thank you.
