Well, it is raining as I write this, but I have hope that it will be sunny soon! I want to let you share a craft we recently did with the older children in Sunday school. The lesson was “Jesus Feeds Five Thousand”, which was an appropriate lesson as we had just started the Kidz Club food drive. The children learned that Jesus took five loaves of bread and two fish and turned it into enough food for everyone— plus leftovers! To reinforce the lesson, the older children made bird feeders out of empty water bottles. We told the children that we would be providing food for hungry birds. We can surprise hungry birds by providing food for them like Jesus fed the crowd. I thought it would be fun to share this craft with you. Feed the Birds Bird Feeder Supplies: Empty water bottles with lid, scissors, various colored permanent markers, tape, yarn, ribbon, and birdseed. • Use permanent markers to color the bird feeder. • Tape the “roof ” (the top of the water bottle) so that it rests on top of the birdseed holder. • Tie yarn around the top of the bottle, just under the lid, so that it hangs. It’s best if the knot lines up with the “door” so that the bird feeder hangs at a backward angle. This will enable it to better support the weight of hungry birds. You can also add ribbon to make a bow around the bottles. • Fill the bird feed with birdseed and hang outside.
