WEATHER & GENERAL INFORMATION:
New Zealand - For visitors from the northern hemisphere especially, the first month of
summer (as opposed to winter) in December is always a bit of a novelty. A 'hot Christmas' is
celebrated by many New Zealanders with a 'barbie on the beach' rather than with a cooked
roast meal. The summer months of December, January and February typically bring with them
high temperatures and sunshine. Days are long and sunny, nights are mild. A light jacket or
sweater should be included in your luggage should the weather turn cooler.
Hawaii - The official rainy season is in the winter from November to March. My personal
experience has been that the rainy season means absolutely nothing. It rains every day
somewhere on every island regardless of the time of year, and it is more like a sprinkle than a
downpour. That is why it is so lush and beautiful there. It is very rare for it to rain
continuously for days. The weather is best described by the micro systems within each island.
Certain parts of every island get more rain than the other parts. This is due to the prevalent
trade winds that blow. Bring a raincoat! Average temperature 60◦ - 80◦F.
