KDE Spelling Bee: Monday, December 12th
Welcome, Jessie Miller, New KDE Principal!
The KDE Spelling Bee took place during the day on Monday, December 12th in the Gymnasium. Congratulations to KDE 1st
Place Winner Aiza Mominkhawaja and alternate Allyson Tang.
Congratulations also to all the participants! We are so proud of
you!!
KDE is thrilled to welcome our new Principal, Jessie Miller! Mrs.
Miller began her career 20 years ago as a teacher at The Honor
Roll School in Sugar Land, Texas. She joined Katy ISD in 1999,
where she has served as a teacher for Hutsell Elementary, assistant
principal for King Elementary, and most recently, elementary curriculum coordinator. She holds a Bachelor of Science Texas State
University in San Marcos, and a Master of Education from The
University of St. Thomas in Houston. She is excited to greet all of
our dragons on January 4th!!
Polar Express Pajama Day:
Thursday, December 15th
5th Grade VIP Field Trip to Alley Theatre
The 5th Grade VIP group joined Mrs. Leethem on a
field trip to Alley Theatre’s production of A Christmas Carol on Tuesday, December 13th. Students had
a fabulous time and were given an opportunity to ask
questions with the actors after the performance.
Davidson’s 3rd annual Polar Express Pajama Day
took place on Thursday, December 15th. Students
and staff came to school in pajamas and had a special viewing of the movie The Polar Express. Thank
you PTA for providing yummy hot chocolate for our
dragons!
Holiday Sing-A-Long: Friday, December 16th
College Spirit Day on Wednesday, December 14th
College Spirit Day was held on Wednesday, December 14th.
Students and staff wore their favorite college shirts in support of higher education. During the morning announcements, Ms. Beisert, Ms. King, Ms. Nichols and Ms. Whitman
shared fun and interesting facts about Texas State University. Did
you know that TSU is the only Texas college to have graduated a
U.S. President? President Lyndon B. Johnson graduated from
Texas State in 1927!
KDE Reception Held For Principal Leethem and
New KDE Principal Miller
Davidson students and families gathered on Thursday,
December 15th for an informal meet and greet to say
goodbye to our amazing Principal, Mrs. Leethem and to welcome our new principal, Jessie
Miller. Thank you to all that attended this special event!
KDE’s 3rd annual Holiday Sing-A-Long took
place on Friday, December 16th during the
school day. Mrs. Leethem brought the entire
student body together for this fun holiday sing-along.
Winter Break = NO SCHOOL
Monday, December 19th through Tuesday, January
3rd
Winter break is from Monday, December 19,
2016 through January 3, 2017. Students return to school on Wednesday, January 4,
2017. We wish everyone a safe and happy
winter break!

Digital Citizenship Contest
Katy ISD digital Citizenship Committee is sponsoring a Digital
Citizenship Contest. Create your own video or photo/meme.
Winning videos, photos/memes will be shown at every Katy ISD
campus during Digital Citizenship Week in February. Deadline to

Wear Gold to School on Thursday, January 5th
for Core Essential: KNOWLEDGE
Students and staff are encouraged to wear
GOLD to school on Thursday, January 5th in
recognition of January’s Core Essential:
KNOWLEDGE. The animal is the Owl. The
class in each grade level with the greatest percentage of students wearing the Core Essential
color will receive the KDE Core Pride Award
Certificate to hang on their window/door for the
month! In addition, these classes will enjoy a
mystery reader who will share a story on the core essential.

Mad Science After School Program New Session
Begins: Wednesday, January 25, 2017
Spark your child’s imagination even when school is out! Mad
Science offers fun, inquiry-based, hands-on, afterschool programs that cover a wide range of science topics. Registration
for the Spring I session at KDE is underway. The new session
begins at Davidson on Wednesday, January 25th from 3:45PM5:15PM. Please open the attached information and registration

Six Flags Reading Program Begins Monday, January 9th
On Monday, January 9th, the Six Flags
Reading Program begins in the library with

There will be no school on Monday, January
16th in observance of Martin Luther King

Texas 2X2 Read-a-Thon: A Reading Celebration
for Kinder—2nd Grade Students
Fort Bend County Libraries is hosts the Texas 2X2 Read-a-thon
on Saturday, January 28th from 10:00AM—12:00PM at the
Fulshear Branch. Enjoy great stories and some tasty treats
while students achieve their reading goals. Volunteers will
read one-on-one or in small groups to help K-2nd grade students tackle their 2X2 reading assignments from local schools.
All titles on the 2016 list will be available. Open the attached

College Spirit Day: Wednesday, January 18th
Mark Your Calendar: Science Week is Coming!
Students and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite college

Spirit Day. Staff members will appear on the morning announcements this day to share fun and interesting facts with students
about the college they attended.
Science Week is coming to KDE January 23rd through January
27th! Science Fair judging will take place on
Tuesday, January 24th for students in 3rd, 4th, and
5th grades. Student Science Fair Presentations for
Kinder, 1st, and 2nd will take place on Wednesday, January 25th.
Bookworm: A Festival For Young Readers
Bookworm: A Festival for Young Readers will
take place on Saturday, January 21st from
9:30AM-11:30AM at Spring Oaks Middle

Family Science Night will take place on Thursday, January
26th from 5:30PM to 7:00PM. The PTA will feature Yuck!

TIP: Technology Information for Parents
Instructional Technology has created an informational site for
parents, called T.I.P. This site contains instructional videos for
parents on a variety of KISD applications such as Canvas,
MyKaty Cloud, Office 365, technology outages as well as information on Digital Responsibility to name a few. The Division of
Technology as well as other departments will continue to add
information to this site to inform parents of the digital tools that

A View Into Elementary Instruction
A new link for parents of elementary students has been added to
the new District Parents site (http://www.katyisd.org/parents/)
under the tab titled “CURRICULUM.” The title of the link is A
VIEW INTO ELEMENTARY INSTRUCTION and contains videos
describing balanced mathematics and balanced literacy, Pre-K
through Grade Five mathematical instructional videos on a variety
of topics, a sample Intermediate Word Study Lesson sequence,
parent resources for Word Study and Fine Motor Skills/
Handwriting, and access to Elementary Coordinators for parent
questions regarding instructional videos. We’re excited to share
that many of the videos are direct from our own KDE webpage!

KDE Absence Reporting Form
Davidson Elementary offers the opportunity for parents/guardians
to report their child’s absence via the campus webpage on the
district website. Visit: http://www.katyisd.org/campus/KDE/
Pages/ABSENCE-REPORTING.aspx. You will be able to fill out
the form indicating your child’s absence for that day’s absence
and submit it with a few clicks of your mouse. The information
will go directly to ADA Mrs. Susie Moon. If you should have any

Celebrate Your Child’s Birthday on
KDE’s Marquee
Would you like to celebrate your child’s birthday on the KDE
Marquee? You may now purchase a week of special birthday
wishes for your child! Due to space, a maximum of ten birthdays
each week will be displayed on a first come, first serve basis. The
week will run from Friday to Friday. Pick up a Birthday Marquee
Request Form, choose your week, and send it in to school with
your child.
