3. ADHESIVE: The approved adhesives for Nuovo are RC1000 water-based adhesive and Wakol MS 550 a 1 component,
100% solids, 0 VOC adhesive. The trowel size for RC1000 adhesive is 1/16”x1/16”x1/16” V notch trowel and the trowel for
Wakol MS 550 is 1/16”x1/16”x1/16” V notch trowel. Wakol MS 550 adhesive is recommended for areas with heavy rolling
loads.
4. TILE INSTALLATION:
4.1. Substrate preparation: All substrates shall be cleaned, dry, smooth, flat, and structurally sound. Substrate shall be
free of dust, solvent, paint, wax, oil, grease, sealers, old adhesives or other materials according to ASTM 710. Before
installing any materials make sure that the area is completely dry and level 3/16” in 10 feet. For concrete substrates,
perform calcium chloride test and/or relative humidity testing and check for pH level. Moisture shall not exceed 3 lbs/
1000 sq.ft. (per ASTM F1869) and/or relative humidity should be less than 75% (per ASTM F 2170); and pH level shall be
7-10. If moisture exceeds the requirement, do not proceed with installation without contacting the Capri technical
department as Capri can offer solutions for moisture problems.
4.1.1. Concrete floors must be flat to 3/16” in 10 feet and if uneven must be patched (use only Portland based
patching compounds). If floor is new, be sure it is completely dry (several months curing is preferred). Sweep area
clean. Slab shall adhere to ASTM F1869 for water vapor emissions and/or ASTM F 2170 for relative humidity.
Cracks, expansion joints and uneven areas should be filled with a material intended for that purpose.
4.1.2. Wood substrates shall be double layer construction with a minimum total thickness of one (1”), suspended at least
18” above the ground of above a concrete slab, with adequate cross ventilation. Crawl spaces shall be
insulated and protected by a vapor barrier. If needed, floor may be covered with 1/4” or thicker A.P.A. approved
underlayment plywood.
4.1.3. An adhesive bond test shall be completed in several locations across the floor. Glue down a tile of material with
recommended adhesive and trowel and let set for 48 hours before trying to remove. It shall be relatively difficult to
pull tile up and there shall be adhesive on the floor and the tile.
4.2. Jobsite Conditions and Material Acclimation
4.2.1. All trades must be out of the area before installation begins. After installation is complete and if other trades will
work in the area, appropriate protective cover shall be placed on the floor prior to any work.
4.2.2. Area where flooring is to be installed shall be temperature controlled between 65° and 75° F prior to, during
after installation. Nuovo and adhesive must be placed in the area flooring is to be installed for 72 hours prior to
installation.
4.3. Installation of Nuovo Tiles
4.3.1. Directional arrows are on the backs of Nuovo tiles. Nuovo must be dry laid prior to installing with adhesive. After the
entire floor has been dry laid, view the room under normal lighting conditions and inspect for color acceptance and
any defects that might occur. It is the installers’ responsibility to bring any discrepancy to the appropriate person
before adhesive installation begins.
4.3.2. Spread adhesive using recommended trowel according to directions on adhesive pail, paying close attention to
spread rate, open time and working time. Environmental conditions (i.e. temperature, humidity, air flow, direct
sunlight) will affect open and working time.
4.3.3. Place tiles in adhesive tightly together but do not push or slide together as this will cause adhesive to seep through
seams. If this occurs, either too much adhesive is being used or tiles are being pushed or slid together.
4.3.4. Periodically pick up a tile during installation to make sure proper adhesive transfer is being made. If you need to
work on top of tile, use a kneeling board.
4.3.5. Roll the floor after 30 minutes with a 3 section 75 or 100 lb roller. Repeat rolling again after 60 minutes. Roll the
floor in two directions. Hand roll all areas which cannot be reached with the large roller. Any uneven joints can be
weighed down overnight.
4.3.6. Adhesive on tiles or seams must be removed when adhesive is still wet. Removal of dry adhesive might cause
damage to the tile.
4.3.7. Restrict foot traffic on the floor for 24 hours. Do not allow heavy foot traffic or rolling loads on floor for a minimum of
36 hours after the material has been installed. Foot traffic and rolling loads can cause permanent indentations in
adhesive which is not fully cured.
5. MAINTENANCE: The initial cleaning of a new floor is very important. This cleaning is done to remove any dirt and grit from
job site conditions. Failure to clean properly will cause bonding issues with protective coatings as well as the entrapment of dirt
in the floor. INITIAL CLEANING SHALL NOT TAKE PLACE UNTIL 36 HOURS AFTER INSTALLATION. To avoid possible
damage to the flooring, the following shall never be used on the floor: steel wool or abrasive brushes, abrasive or alkaline
cleaners, solvents of any type.
5.1. Thoroughly sweep or vacuum flooring to remove all loose dirt and grit. Floor shall be scrubbed with neutral floor cleaner
(available from Capri). Allow the floor to dry thoroughly.

7. REGULAR MAINTENANCE PROGRAM: With or without finish on Nuovo, regular maintenance is required and will
increase the life of the floor and (optional) finish.
8. WARRANTY: Nuovo is warranted for ten (10) years for material or manufacture defects.
9. TECHNICAL SERVICES:
9.1. Submittals: Submittal samples (6” x 6”) for verification and approval of product are available by contacting customer
service. Acceptance shall constitute the standard materials which represent the materials to be installed on the project.
