LAND Manly Art Gallery & Museum 3 November – 3 December 2017 Manly Art Gallery & Museum and MAG&M Society support and encourage creativity on the Northern Beaches and invite expressions of interest in the 7th exhibition of new works by members of MAG&M Society and artists from the Northern Beaches arts community. The exhibition is open to artists working in all media, including digital media, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, sculpture, glass and ceramics. We anticipate a dynamic exhibition of works across a diverse range of media. This year, artists are invited to create new works in response to a theme ‐ ‘land’. The exhibition will be curated by Katherine Roberts, Senior Curator, Manly Art Gallery & Museum. … landscape, headland, inland, wasteland, landfill, landmine, landfall, landing, homeland, island, landform … Artists are encouraged to explore their own interests in this exhibition concept; land as an idea, a metaphor, a noun, a verb, a place, a possibility, a presence, a contested space and as a grand cultural presence within this region and beyond. Through art we can explore old meanings and create new ones using various forms of imagination to delve deeper into the meaning of land to us. The exhibition supports and connects this region’s contemporary artists with the gallery, providing a valuable opportunity to showcase their work and to challenge their art practice through diverse responses. Artists are encouraged to become members of the Manly Art Gallery & Museum Society. If you are not already or your membership is not current, pop into the Gallery or call 9976 1419 to join. The Society plays a vital social and fundraising role for the Gallery. It enjoys the support of its membership and is committed to the development of artists, audiences and the collection through its diverse programs. Funds raised by the activities of the Society assist with the conservation and purchase of artworks for the Gallery’s impressive collection of paintings, ceramics, prints and photography. The Society also presents the annual Manly Youth Art Award, the Life Drawing Studio, Manly’s Big Draw family event and this biannual exhibition, as well as many other activities for its members and supporters.
