Chapter I
A. The Story
Read this short version of the chapter. There are 2 things
which didn’t really happen. Find them.
The story is set in North America during the war between the French
and the British. A group of people, two white men, two white women
and a red Indian are travelling from one British fort to another by
road. The Indian guide with gets them lost. The group are then helped
by Hawkeye and his two Indian friends. Hawkeye doesn’t trust the
Indian and tries to take him prisoner and with Duncan’s help they are
successful.

Chapter 2
A. The Story
Read this short version of the chapter. There are 2 things which
didn’t really happen. Find them.
Hawkeye took the group to a safe place after Duncan had promised
never to tell anybody about it. The Indians took the horses away and
the two groups met again near a river. They then went and hid in a cave
which was by the side of the river. They heard terrible screams in the
night which came from a group of Huron Indians. The Indians attacked
them but were unsuccessful. In the end the groups’ gunpowder ran out
and they were unable to use their guns anymore.

A. The Story
Read this short version of the chapter. There are a few things which
didn’t really happen. Find them.
Hawkeye and the two Indians realise they have fought together for
the last time and they prepare to die. Cora tells them to leave so they
can save them later. Only Uncas and Duncan stay with the two sisters.
The group are caught by the Indians although Magua is nearly killed by
Duncan. The Huron Indians are very unhappy that they didn’t catch
Chingachgook. The group are taken away by Magua and some of his
men. They goto a hill and eat some food. Magua tells Alice he wants to
marry her. She refuses so Magua prepares to kill them. They are saved
by Hawkeye and the Indians, however Magua escapes.

Chapter 4
A. The Story
Read this short version of the chapter. There are two things which
didn’t really happen. Find them.
The group were able to get to the British fort because of bad weather.
The French discovered them but it was too late to stop them and
the daughters met again with their father. Hawkeye was sent to Fort
Edward to get news but he was caught when he came back. Duncan

was sent to meet Moncalm, the French general. The Frenchman said
he would only give the letter to Munro, so Munro went to meet him.
Munro was given a letter from Fort Edward which said that they are
not able to help. Munro decided to surrender. Magua was unhappy
that there would be no fighting and he spoke with Montcalm who told
him that he could attack the British. The next day, after the British left
their fort there was a massacre, started when the British shot at the
Indians.

A. The Story

Chapter 6
A. The Story
Read this short version of the chapter. There are a few things which
didn’t really happen. Find them.
Hawkeye and David met in one of the huts and together they went to
find Uncas. They got into Uncas’s hut by saying they were going to
kill him. The three of them changed clothes and Uncas and Hawkeye
escaped to the forest. David was left in the hut, dressed as Uncas, he
wasn’t killed because he was friends with the Indians.

The next day Magua went to the camp of the Delawares. He told them
that enemies were there. Tamenund came to see Magua. The two were
good friends. Uncas came to the meeting and spoke to the leaders. He
was rude to them, and they wanted to kill him. When they discovered
he was a Mohican they realised he was a great friend.
Magua was able to keep Cora and the other prisoners because of old
Indians laws.

Chapter 7
7.
A. The Story
Read this short version of the chapter. There are two things which
didn’t really happen. Find them.
Hawkeye took twenty men and waited for the Hurons to attack Uncas
and his men. When they did Hawkeye shot many of the Huron. Magua
ran away and was followed by Uncas, Duncan and Hawkeye. They ran
through an empty cave and up a mountain. Duncan was the first to see
Cora. Cora stopped running and was killed. Uncas was very sad, he killed
Cora’s murderer. Then Magua and Uncas had a fight, Uncas died.
Magua was very happy to finally kill his enemy and gave a shout of joy,
but he was killed some afterwards by Hawkeye. The story ends with
the funerals of Cora and Uncas.
