Directions: Fill in the rock cycle below. Fill in the boxes with the correct STAGE of the rock cycle, then write the correct
PROCESS next to each of the arrows. (Tell me how it turns into the next stage). Draw a picture of each stage in the box.

Label each of the following arrows with the following numbers:
1= Weathering and Erosion, 2= Melting, 3= Solidification/Crystallization, 4= Heat and Pressure, 5= Lithification
1. The process of Weathering and Erosion forms sediment.
2. The process of Lithification forms sedimentary rock.
3. The process of Heat and Pressure forms metamorphic rock.
4. The process of Melting forms magma.
5. The process of Solidification/Crystallization forms igneous rock.
6. What is lithification? How are weathering and erosion different?
Lithification is the process of sediment compacting and cementing into a solid rock (a
sedimentary rock) because it is under so much pressure from the layers above it.
Weathering is different from erosion in that weathering is the act of rocks breaking into
smaller pieces, where erosion is the movement of those small pieces from one place to
another.
