Programme summary: The interaction between the geosphere, hydrosphere, and
bioosphere is the main focus of the Master of Science in Biogeosciences. This natural
science programme emphasizes the processes involved in the transfer of toxic substances
from minerals through ground water and surface water into the biological system. The
interdisciplinary nature of the programme allows students to acquire a great deal of useful
knowledge, as the transfer processes between geological and biological systems have not
yet been thoroughly explored.
Special features: Students in this programme may spend one semester abroad.
Career opportunities: Graduates of this programme are qualified to work in the field of
environmental protection and in the area of decontamination, typically for engineering
companies. They are also well equipped to pursue additional academic degrees (such as a
Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, or geology) and a scholarly career.
Application requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a
related field. In addition, proficiency in English at level B1 of the Common European
Framework of Reference for Languages is required. Applicants whose native language is
not German must also pass the DSH Level 2, TestDaF 4x4, or another internationally
recognized German examination of the same level. Applications will be evaluated based on
the following criteria in this order:
1. Grade point average
2. Work experience
