METABOLIC SYNDROME We are rapidly seeing the increase in one of the largest disease epidemics (and we use this word accurately) to ever strike the North American population. We are not talking about a dangerous new flu or some type of super germ. This is a description of a disease caused by your body's inability to make the most of the food you eat and the beverage that you drink. The consequences of this condition are aging you prematurely, and making you feel older than you should. It will also put you at a sharply increased risk of practically every agerelated disorder. The list includes obesity, hypertension, nervous system disorders, eye disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and even Alzheimer's disease. In addition to physical symptoms, you likely feel exhausted, spacey, depressed, irritable, or angry when you shouldn't be. Health care practitioners who recognize the underlying cause of this epidemic call it by any of a number of names: insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, glucose intolerance, prediabetes, or even a newer, very accurate combined term known as diabesity. But few, even in the medical community recognize the full scope of this disorder: it affects, to one degree or another, the majority of people. If you are over the age of 35, you may be more familiar with some of the early signs and symptoms than the names of this condition: feeling sluggish, physically and mentally, after you eat and at many other times as well. Gaining a pound here and a pound there-and having increasing difficulty in losing the unwanted weight. Having your blood pressure creep up year and after year. Finding that your cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar levels are doing the same thing as the numbers continue to get higher. These are all accepted signs of getting older, but they are all also reversible. Such symptoms indicate that something is fundamentally wrong with your health, and they have an "additive" effect, meaning that two or three of these symptoms (such as obesity plus high blood pressure) increase your risk of serious disease far more than just one symptom. Look at your own health: are you a little flabbier than you would like to be, is your blood pressure a little higher than it should be, or is your cholesterol up more than your doctor says it should be? Uncorrected, the symptoms will add up year after year and their effect will become magnified, undermining your health and all of your hopes for a happy and healthy future. We have some good news! You have the power within you to turn all of this around. You can reverse these trends and prevent a downward spiral in your life and health. Joint comfort: Do you recover from exercise more easily and more quickly? Do you feel more flexible? Sleep: Do you wake up less frequently and/or awaken earlier? When you sleep, your body isn't just “fasting” from food but from water too. 7 AM: Short Walk This is an ideal fat-burning energizer. A light bout of cardio soon after you wake up and before you eat such as a walk with the dog, even running up and down stairs in your home taps into your body's energy reserves. The idea is to fit in some easy activity and then eat within an hour of waking. Enjoy the rest of your water and select a Level G tablet. 7:30 AM: Breakfast About one hour after waking, enjoy a healthy breakfast with a serving of protein and some fiber. This is a perfect time to consume 2 gelcaps of Rhythmatix, 1 RegeniFREE and Xtra. Here's the Key: Whatever you do, don't just sip coffee all morning and wait to eat until lunch. You'll be so hungry, you won't make healthy choices. 9 AM to 11 AM: Morning Beverage We're going to learn that we do well with about five servings of beverage a day, and it's better to sip a little all day long instead of chugging a giant glass when you suddenly feel parched. It's all about keeping the body properly hydrated throughout the day. 10 to 10:30 AM: Stretch and Snack If your work keeps you “desk-bound”, it is important to get up every hour or so and move around. Eat every 3 hours to keep energy up and avoid binges. 12:30 PM: Water, and some light activity Finish your morning glass, refill it, and drink some good clear water. Then get up and stretch at your desk. Jump-start your digestive system. 1 to 1:30 PM: Mid-day meal This is a great time for a “blended meal” and/or a serving from one of the three “S” options. Enjoy Soup, Salad, or a healthy Sandwich. 2 PM: Beverage and a Walk Doing this now will help you make a sensible choice if those afternoon cravings strike. Get outside if you can. The fresh air and sunshine will boost your spirits and stop you from overeating because of a bad mood. 3:30 to 4 PM: Afternoon Snack Almost everyone needs to snack sometime between lunch and dinner. Try a 6-ounce yogurt (the natural milk sugars help with sweet cravings) and a handful of high-fiber cereal. Have a small banana with a tablespoon of peanut or almond butter. Great time for Xtra. 6 to 7 PM: Walk or Work Out If you didn't walk in the morning, now is a good time for some exercise. When you're home waiting before dinner is often when the munchies happen. Keep moving with some type of pre-dinner activity. This is a good time for 1 capsule of Level G. 7:30 PM: Dinner It’s time to enjoy your second helping of the day of 2 Gelcaps of Rhythmatix and 1 capsule of RegeniFREE. Start this meal off with soup for a little variety to help you slow down, and to get your digestive juices flowing. Studies show that people who do, end up eating less overall. For the main meal, get real creative with a nice 3-4 ounce serving of your favorite protein (Salmon, chicken, or lean meat, for instance), a colorful salad and some lightly steamed vegetables. 10:30 to 11 PM: Time for Bed Aim for 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night; less than that, and you up your risk for a host of health problems, including weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, and more, not to mention the odds that you'll feel more tired, frazzled, and likely to overeat the next day. Give yourself plenty of time to wind down with a calming routine, such as a bath, shower, or reading in bed. Great time for Aloe Gold. 3
