Results of the Voters’ Meeting of February 12th, 2017:
40 Voting members were present. Meeting was called to order, opened with
prayer and devotion. Minutes from the previous meeting were not available. 2016
calendar year end attendance and membership changes were reviewed.
Financial review. Karen Jures, treasurer, reported we are overall close as far as
income and expenses are concerned and are now paying outside commitments.
Two electronic ways of giving are available. Direct Deposit in which the individual
signs up for an amount to be deducted from his/her bank account weekly. Credit
card giving over the website in which a fee of $.30 is charged per transaction and
2.9% of the amount designated is deducted from the donation.
We have received an extremely generous donation of $52,000 from the Warren
Hutchings trust. The congregation voted that this money be used as follows: a
portion for emergency funds; a portion for charitable use; and a portion for matching
funds to help pay for CLC a/c’s.
Shirley Katele reported on the a/c situation. The South side unit is broken and
cannot be repaired. Five companies were contacted. Three were unable to handle
the job. Quotes were from:
DMI (Starr Heating) using Rheem a/c’s…$31,200 for two $15,600 for one.
Berwyn Western using Carrier a/c’s…$24,880 for two $12,750 for one
There could be an extra charge of $4,400 for each unit by each company for a
special (Variable Frequency Drive) air handler, if it is needed. Both companies are
rated 4-star.
How to pay for the a/c’s? The idea behind the matching funds from the trust was
explained. Donations given by congregation members for the new a/c’s would be
matched from this fund. It was suggested that we need $670 more per week now
thru August. With matching funds, we will have the amount needed.
A motion was made and passed to let the council choose the firm to install the
a/c’s, as long as the amount did not exceed $32,000, and to suggest that additional
donations from members be made as they are able to give. A letter informing the
congregation will be sent. Donation amounts will be reported in the bulletin.
A-3 process is a problem solving process the council is using to determine how
CLC can best serve the surrounding community. A group headed by Shirley Katele
met on 2/3/17 for discussion. Suggestions will be reviewed by council.
A question was asked about the previously announced “Swaddling Clothes”
program. CLC plans to start a similar program this year called, “With One Heart”.
Two council positions are still open. A call went out for volunteers.
New business “5th Sunday Nominations” is a program (under review) in which a
special offering is taken up on the 5th Sunday of the month for mission work.
(The above report was written by the Office Secretary from notes taken by her they are not the actual
minutes recorded by the Executive Secretary of the Council.)

A/C update. The Variable Frequency Drive air handlers mentioned above were
not needed therefore we will not have to pay the extra $4,400 for each unit. After
the contract with Berwyn Western was reviewed by our church attorney, it was
signed this past week. Watch the bulletin for updates on contributions received
to the Air Conditioner fund.

Calendars are available in the Narthex and Fellowship Hall. Also watch for
additional announcements in the weekly bulletin.

Lenten Devotional booklets are available in the Narthex.
