ON THE COVER
Running the bases at the NMAC Baseball Stadium during
Summer Camp (see page 10 for more details).

But Wait, There’s More!
Since 2014, The North Main Athletic Complex
has undergone several construction phases
which included the building of the tennis,
soccer, and baseball complexes. Within the
baseball stadium, the Town has constructed
several additional segments as well. Last fall,
the Town added new restrooms and a beer
garden along the first base line. These added
features increased the stadium’s capacity and
functionality, and provided an aesthetically
pleasing finish to the right outfield section
and area along Main Street. The beer garden
also provided patrons with a new space in
which to congregate during events, company
outings, or personal festivities.
In February, the Town began constructing
a playground and two batting cages in the
undeveloped area along the third baseline.
The 3,200-square foot playground will be
composed of two play structures, one suited
for 2-5 year olds and the other appropriate
for 5-12 year olds. Both features will sit on
a rubber surface that will provide amble
shock absorbency, yet is rigid enough to
comply with ADA standards. The area will
be completely enclosed by an eight-foot chain link fence and topped with a large net to prevent foul
balls from entering the compound. Similar to all the Town’s parks, the playground will be open daily to
the public from dawn until dusk. The playground will however be used exclusively by arena spectators
during ticketed events at the stadium.
Adjacent to the playground, the Town will construct two batting cages on a synthetic turf surface.
The netting system for each batting cage will span 75 feet long, 12 feet wide, and 14 feet tall. This
added amenity will allow baseball teams more hitting and pitching space when preparing for games
or practicing at the stadium.
The projected completion date for the NMAC playground and batting cages is early May. When the
stadium is completed this spring, the Town will have constructed two play areas; the beer garden for
adults in the right field area, and the playground and batting cages for kids and baseball teams in the
left field area. For All The You Ways You Play,
Adam Huffman
Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation

optionally can include historically accurate
armor). Students studying fight choreography
(stage combat) utilize appropriate stage weapons
and genre-appropriate costume. Class consists of
instruction/discussion, conditioning, drills, and
either practice bouts or choreography practice.
Pre-requisite of historical martial art experience
and instructor approval. Metal (except fencing
weapons), sharp and projectile weapons are
strictly not allowed. There is no supply fee,
however students must provide their own
approved armor. See instructor for details.
AGE: 15+
Younger ages will be considered with parent
presence and instructor permission. Learn
medieval weapons in a fun, supportive, and
challenging atmosphere. Classes will include
use of synthetic swords for techniques, drills,
safety training, and theory. Sparing will be done
with padded safety swords and head protection
equipment. Weapons include Arming Sword,
Two-Handed Sword, Staff, and various Off-Hand
weapons. Equipment is available to rent (supply

bouts as quickly as possible. Experienced fencers
welcome too! All three sport-fencing weapons
(foil, epee, and saber) are used, with instruction
generally focusing on one at a time. Class consists
of warmups, instruction, and drills, followed by

AGE: 6+
Hip hop explores street/urban dance. Students
will learn basic hip hop vocabulary and
combinations and work on personal style and
expression. Class will consist of a warm up, floor
progressions, and center combinations. Athletic
attire is recommended with tennis shoes.
AGE: 6-9
We will explore the vastness of the universe’s
animals and creatures, known and created! This
storytelling class is rooted in movement and
exploration, and will include making masks
and costumes to ultimately tell our own stories,
culminating in an in-class performance on the
last day!
AGE: 8-18
Come dive into the crazy and magical world of
wonders found in Alice in Wonderland. A fun
and exciting musical, we will meet small and tall
Alice, and a host of wacky characters that are both
fun to play and interesting enough to challenge
experienced actors! Students will experience
the variety of processes involved in being a
part of a musical, which will culminate in four
performances. Rehearsal runs from 6:30-8:45pm
until Tech week. Not all students must attend
all rehearsals, but should be available. Once
the show is cast, students and parents will be
provided a more specific rehearsal calendar. Tech
week will include rehearsals 6-8:45pm, although
not all students will necessarily be required to
attend all of that time frame; this is dependent on
their role. Attendance during Tech/Production
week is mandatory, regardless of when student
is called to rehearsal. Audition specifics will be
shared prior to first day of program; there will be
two days of auditions. Availability, audition, and
experience will be factors considered in casting
roles. All participants receive a show shirt, and
parents receive two comp tickets for each child
they have in the production. A supply fee is due
in cash or check to the instructor at the first class.

From finding/writing a script through the editing
process, students will have the opportunity to
learn the basics of making a film in this beginner’s

lighting basics, sound basics, shooting, editing,
marketing. While the goal is to culminate in the
premiere of finished pieces (5-minute films),
the pace of this class is set by the individual
student, and may result in shorter pieces (such
as a commercial). Students will need cell phones
with video capability or their own cameras to
complete filming process and will need access
to a computer with basic editing software (found
pre-loaded on most current computers), and
may have to work outside of class to complete
the project depending on their project. However,
students are welcome to take the class and learn
about and serve as Director of Photography,
Director, or Screenwriter if that suits their needs
better. We will work together as a class to create
as many completed projects as possible and show
off the results at the final class.
