Light and Reflection
Pupils should be taught to:
Recognise that they need light in order to see
things and that dark is the absence of light.
Possible Activities
When the sun is behind you, your shadow is in front. The
sun appears highest at the middle of the day. The higher
the sun appears in the sky, the shorter shadows are.
Notice that light is reflected from surfaces
Know that some material reflect light and its purpose for safety
Recognise that light from the sun can be
dangerous and that there are ways to protect
their eyes.
Recognise that shadows are formed when the
light from a light source is blocked by
a solid object.
terns in the way that the size of
shadows change.
Shadows can tell us the time of day.
Transparent and translucent objects and materials let light through. Opaque
objects and materials do not let light through.
Explore shadows cast by opaque and transparent objects.
