Lap Swimming Etiquette
To ensure the safety and enjoyment for all lap swimmers at the Annette Kellerman
Aquatic Centre please adopt the our lap swimming etiquette:













Choose a lane appropriate for your swimming stroke and speed.
Keep to the left of the black line.
Allow faster swimmers to pass at the end of a lane.
Keep the end of the pool clear for swimmers to touch or tumble turn.
Be considerate and encouraging to other swimmers.
Look both ways and take extra care when changing or crossing lanes to exit the
pool.
Let the other swimmers know you will be joining the lane before entering the
pool in order to avoid collisions.
Don’t hang or sit on the lane ropes.
Don’t stop in the middle of a lane.
Don’t swim or kick in pairs.
Avoid wide strokes (i.e. butterfly, breast stroke) during peak times.
Be aware that Lifeguards can change the lane allocations at any time.
Walking Lane: For gentle movement exercises, walking and passive use.
Slow Lane: No time limit. No flippers or paddles allowed.
Medium Lane: Laps slower than 40 seconds but faster than 60 seconds,
competitive strokes only.
Fast Lane: Freestyle or laps faster than 40 seconds. No breast stroke, kickboards or
pull-buoys.
