Anoka Hennepin K-12 Curriculum Unit Plan Department: Physical Education Course/Grade Level: 3rd Grade Unit Title: Muscular Fitness Number of Lessons/Days: 10 Weeks – Trimester 2 Unit Summary: Third graders will build upon their knowledge of muscular fitness during a variety of activities. Students will be introduced to the three components of fitness (strength, endurance and flexibility) and be assessed on what activities correlate to each of the muscular fitness components. Students will also be completing three of the fitness assessments during this unit; Sit-Ups, Pull-Ups, and Sit and Reach DESIRED RESULTS (STAGE 1) Program Understanding and/or Minnesota State/Local/Core Standards and Technology Standard(s) addressed: II. Fitness Students will understand that maintaining personal health and physical fitness levels will have life-long benefits. Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing levels of physical fitness. Benchmark: 1: Students will participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity. 2: Students will identify the physiological indicators that accompany moderate to vigorous activity. 3: Students will identify personal (fitness-component) strengths and weaknesses using a National Fitness Test. III. Movement and Motor Skills Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Benchmark: 1: Students will demonstrate mature form in all locomotor and non-locomotor skills. 2: Students will demonstrate an understanding the elements of dance. 3: Students will demonstrate dynamic and static balance in a variety of activities. 4: Students will develop manipulative skills in game situations. IV. Movement, Concept and Strategies Standard 2: Demonstrates understandings of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.
