Republic of Turkey MINISTRY OF FORESTRY AND WATER AFFAIRS General Directorate for Combating Erosion and Desertification ALTINOVA WIND ROSE On the other hand, the wind slows down the plant development and reduces fertility. The loss of the top soil leads to the loss of biodiversity, the degradation of the vegetation and it causes a shortage with the reduction of food production and migration. RISK ASSESSMENT OF WIND EROSION PROJECT The “Risk Assessment of Wind Erosion Project” in the Agriculture Enterprises of Altınova and Gözlü, connected with TIGEM, has been carried out under the coordination of the General Directorate for Combating Erosion and Desertification and by the General Directorate of Agriculture Enterprise, the Faculty of Agriculture of Ankara and Erciyes. KONYA ALTINOVA - GÖZLÜ AGRICULTURAL ENTERPRISES MODEL WORK CTA (0312) 222 66 77 GÖZLÜ WIND ROSE www.cem.gov.tr The wind erosion occurs as a result of the movement and the detachment of soil particles with the violent wind effect. The wind erosion generally occurs in areas where arid and semiarid climate conditions are predominant. The effect of the wind has not only an impact on the fertile soil but at the mean time it accelerates the evaporation and reduces the humidity of the soil. Occasionally, degradation is caused by the wind erosion in the Agriculture Enterprises of Altınova and Gözlü. Especially during the events happening in February and May, as a result of the wind erosion, the plants are covered of sediments or economic losses are occurred when the roots split off the soil are deracinated. Therefore there is a need for scientific measurement data that will be a guide for preventing wind erosion activities to achieve. With this project it is aimed to directly determine the risk of wind erosion in the various land usages existing in the Agriculture Enterprises lands of Altınova and Gözlü. The wind erosion measurements are realized in 5 different land usages in Altınova and Gölzlü Agricultural Enterprises protected by Cereals, Fallow, irrigated agriculture, Pasture and Wind curtains. device and for each wind erosion the sediment flow (kg m²), the rate of flow sediment (kg m-1 h) and the transportation of the total mass (kg m-1) will be measured. Standard parcels consisted of 4 square meters are existing in the Enterprise. Sediments barriers are installed in 10 different places so that it will be vertical to the prevailing wind, passing through the center line of the parcels. The measurements are performed on event basis, the sediments that will be captured after the wind erosion in the agriculture enterprise will be weighed on an analytical weighing The sediments accumulated in sediment traps are collected and are weighed in the Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Ankara. The measurement results were evaluated at the University of Erciyes. The measurements are performed each wind erosion period. The wind erosion cycle in Konya Basin is between February and June. Sediment traps were installed in February 2014 on the exploration field. The wind erosion prevention work is extremely important for the sustainable land management. The results to be obtained after the project will be used in the identification of : wind erosion prevention methods and measures to be taken for the lands of first priority. The project began in 2013 and will be completed in 2017. One of the Most Effective Ways of Fighting Against Global Warming and Climate Change are the Afforestation and Erosion Control Activities…
