this statement in the third century B.C. he
was referring to the power multiplying effect
that can be achieved through the use of one
of mankind’s oldest and simplest tools, the

Cambodia and Thailand. This organization now works with groups like Engineers
Without Borders to help provide needed
infrastructure in developing countries.
About the work of Human Translations,
Rose-Stockwell says, “We are the fulcrum to
make other things happen.” His is only one

in a myriad of locations around the globe.
A recent survey conducted for the
Association of American Colleges and
Universities set forth a number of learning
outcomes that employers felt were not given
enough emphasis in the higher education of
most recent U.S. graduates. Among these
desired outcomes were: teamwork skills
and the ability to collaborate with others in
diverse group settings; the ability to apply
knowledge and skills to real-world settings

As you read the cover story in this issue
ask yourself, aren’t these qualities demonstrated by all of the young entrepreneurs
profiled, each of whom participated in international education programs? Maybe
the solution for providing the learning
outcomes employers are looking for from
higher education already exists in international education programs. Perhaps this is
the leverage international educators need
for campus advocacy efforts. IE
