A WORD FROM ……..
Reminders:


Everyone is
welcome to attend
the monthly Board
Meetings.
General Annual
meeting is coming
up. Consider being
part of the board
and take part in
the decision
making process!
It's been an exciting curling season and there is more to come!
We are just entering the busiest part of our season. Make sure you get out and
participate in the many bonspiels offered over the next couple of weeks.
Also, buy your tickets for the Queen of Hearts Draw! The queen is still on the
board!
If you are interested in becoming more involved in the curling club please
consider being part of the Board of Directors. If you are interested please see
myself or Nancy Borden for a nomination form.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who have helped
out this year. Our club could not operate without you all. You have made this
year a success for our club. Keep up the great work!

Turkey Spiel – December 14th, 2012
We are not sure who the winners were, but the Turkeys and Chickens were definitely the losers!! Each end had
a little something different for everyone. Thanks to Lori Cuddy and Dave McKittrick for organizing another
wonderful December event.
Kiwanis Spiel – February 2nd
The curling club has enjoyed a great partnership over the last 15
years with the Kiwanis organization and the yearly Kiwanis Bonspiel
is just one example of how this collaboration benefits both groups.
Approximately $400 was raised for the Kiwanis and that was
probably mostly through that silly Chinese auction. Congratulations
to the Austen - Zeigner Team and thanks to the Kiwanis for
providing the great prizes and a great day.

Dominion Provincial Stick Bonspiel – February 7th – 8th
The Land O’ Lakes Curling Club was delighted to host the Dominion Provincial Stick Bonspiel regionals and
whether or not it was home advantage, Ron Hutchinson, Bob Bateman, Wray Thompson and Neville Burroughs
won the spiel! They will represent the club at the Provincials which will be held at the Kitchener Waterloo
Granite Club on April 7th. GOOD LUCK GUYS!!
Men’s Bonspiel – February 14th
I am happy to report that we had another successful spiel raising $1,072.15 for the club. We had
sixteen teams entered. There were three local teams and thirteen from other clubs. Rick Barnard"s team from
Stirling won the "A" draw and Ian Munro's team from Napanee won the "B" draw. As usual, June Way's
kitchen crew did an excellent job of providing a delicious roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Les
Martin provided all the teams with excellent ice conditions. I thank both of these people and their crews
for their support.

Alice Thompson Senior Mixed Spiel – February 16th
We enjoyed the annual ALICE THOMPSON Senior Mixed Bonspiel
with almost a full draw. 14 teams battled it out for the honour of
having their names engraved on the new plaque. Alas, the Earl
Thompson (no relation) team from Norwood cleaned up. Everyone
won a prize (and a couple of people including Lois Thompson won a
bottle of wine for their prowess with the takeout shot) and
enjoyed a couple of good meals. A great value for the $$$. The
raffle table was a huge success. A new plaque and banner
honouring Alice are now in place and almost $600 has been
donated back to the club.

Corporate Spiel – February 24th
The annual Corporate Spiel has been and continues to be successful in
promoting curling in Tweed and raising charitable funds for childrens’
programs run by Gateway CHC. Thanks to teams from Moira Place,
Municipality of Tweed, Rashotte Home Building Centre, Tweed Kiwanis
Club, and Gateway Community Health Centre. This year Team Valumart
won the opportunity to hoist the cup (not sure if we have one).
Many thanks to the volunteers on and off ice

Membership
The membership committee continues to meet monthly. We arranged 2 OCA clinics in January for
our members. We had 10 attend the Curling Strategy Clinic and 7 members attend the Skills
Analysis Clinic presented by Bryan Cathcart of the OCA. All of our members said they benefited
from the sessions and we'll arrange similar next season.

The fundraising committee was busy planning the Spaghetti
Dinner which fed over 100 people on the worst weather day
of the year...We managed to make over $800. and hope this
will become an annual event. Ron Potter, Carolyn Johnston,
Beryl Austin, Pat Cuddy, Marilyn Hermer, (and many more)
donated baked goods which helped to make this fundraising
event the success it was. Anyone interested in joining us on
this committee for the upcoming year, we would love to hear
from you.
