INBOARD MARINE ENGINE
BUYER’S
GUIDE
STEP 1:
CHOOSING
THE BOAT
Do your research on the inboard marine engine first to ensure
you are getting a power plant that can provide the performance,
efficiency and durability that you expect for your investment.
There are basically three engine manufactures you can choose
from when shopping for a towboat - Indmar, PCM®/Crusader and
IImor. PCM®/Crusader and IImor marinize GM blocks that were
designed and engineered for sports cars and sedans. Indmar
Marine Engines marinizes Ford blocks that were designed and
engineered for Ford’s F-Series Super Duty trucks, America’s
best-selling truck for 38 years running.
Let’s take a look at each engine manufacturer, before we dig
into the engine specs.

STEP 2:
GET THE FACTS
Don’t take a salesman’s word for it or some fancy ad agency who writes a
buyers guide for the boat manufacturer, get the facts for yourself.
CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
Just because they claim they have 85% Fewer Warranty Calls – do they have the
Customer Satisfaction awards by their engine owners to prove it?
ENGINE SPECS
And just because they advertise that they have x amount of torque and
horsepower, this may not be the case. Find out the real torque and horsepower
numbers, in fact we will share them with you here in this buyers guide. And
please... find out for yourself what really matters in towsports. We’re gonna tell
you that horsepower numbers are good for coffee shop talk with your buddies,
but torque is what gets things done in a towboat.
EMISSIONS
While you’re fact checking, find out if they have certified ultra low emissions.
If so, did they leave margin for error or stop just below the minimal 2.5
requirement? This is public information that can be found on California Air
Resources Board website.
CUSTOM DESIGNED COMPONENTS
Also, find out if they are restyling off-the-shelf parts and claiming they are
custom built or if they truly custom designed them. If so, do they have awards
(like Indmar) for those custom designed components? Or are they just a ”me too
brand” following the leader?
PRODUCT TESTING
And most importantly, product testing. How many hours have they tested their
engines in a marine environment before bringing them to market? Are they
using time proven, aviation grade components for fuel injection or do you have
to worry about clogged fuel systems and engine carbon build-up that results
in engine hesitation and loss of power - which will require expensive repairs?
At Indmar, we grew up on the water and we live the lifestyle. We are enthusiasts
just like you and our goal is to build the best. We’ve been building marine
engines for over 46 years now, and we are going to tell you we build the best
engine out there.
We’ll even tell you that Best-in-Class isn’t claimed and show you our 4 shiny
awards that we have to prove it; But we challenge you to not take our word for
it, get the facts for yourself.
STEP 3:
CHOOSING
THE ENGINE
You won’t find broken promises on our spec sheets, often times you will
find we surpass those numbers. When you’re ready, turn the page and
let’s take a look at how each engine in the 4X Award Winning Raptor Series
stacks up against the competition and the integrity of our advertising.

STEP 4:
FIND OUT WHAT
OWNERS HAVE
TO SAY
There is value in reputation and our engines speak for themselves, but our
customers speak for us too!
In a recent third party survey, Indmar Marine Engines was the most recognized
and trusted inboard marine engine manufacturer and for good reason. Indmar
Marine Engines has more engines in the market than any other manufacturer.
Which speaks volumes to the fact the Indmar is the only manufacturer to
receive customer satisfaction awards based off the end users experience.
Here are a few testimonials our customers have shared with us, but don’t take
our word for it. Check out our social media sites and see what people have to
say about their Indmar Marine Engine.
John B
After running my new boat for 5
hours I stopped at the gas pump on
the way home. I expected the pump
to run for quite a while, but it clicked
after only taking 9 gallons of fuel.
Thanks Indmar for building the best
engines on the lake!
Glenn O
The Raptor engines are more
technologically advanced than the
old school big blocks they were
using. Single overhead cam vs
pushrod overhead valves, less
weight, less emissions and better
fuel economy! Ford has staged a
triumphant comeback with Indmar!
Kevin K
My boat runs 5150lbs of ballast
everyday. That is 2850 stock plus
2300 additional ballast. Raptor really
doesn’t care. Takes it like a champ
but has power to spare.
SEASON-AFTER-SEASON
RELIABILITY
STEP 5:
WHAT’S THE
DIFFERENCE
Each engine manufacturer has it’s own selling
features, here are the Raptor Series advantages and
premium upgrades that come standard.
CHALLENGE INBOARD PERFORMANCE,
BEGINNING WITH THE BLOCK
The Raptor Series by Indmar is based off a proven
workhorse, the Built Ford Tough® 6.2L 16 Valve V8
SOHC Super Duty Block. The same state-of-the-art
engine that powers the F-Series Super Duty Trucks
that boast best-in-class gas horsepower and max
tow ratings.
With more F-Series Trucks on the road with 250,000
plus miles than any other brand, you can rest assured
the Raptor Series by Indmar is built on a foundation
that is engineered to last.
STEP 5:
WHAT’S THE
DIFFERENCE
LONGER ENGINE LIFE
Closed cooled engine technology maintains consistent engine temperatures
contributing to better fuel economy and performance. Ultimately eliminates
corrosion while providing protection from aquatic invasive species, leading to
longer engine life.
UP TO 20% MORE FUEL EFFICIENT
Our computer controlled sequential firing multiport EFI system coupled with
the additional control of wide-band air/fuel sensors and dual spark plugs
makes for a leaner running engine which equates to better fuel economy and
lower emissions.
LOW RPM PERFORMANCE
Best-in-class torque and horsepower results in lower RPM ranges (2,500 –
3,500) giving you the ability to efficiently push the weight demands of the
sport.
DUAL SPARK PLUGS
Time proven, aviation grade dual spark plugs provide more power per liter and
redundancy in emissions systems and more efficient combustion leading to
increased fuel economy, reliability and cleaner emissions. Dual Spark plugs also
extends the spark plug service life to 300 hours.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Innovative and intuitive components that constantly monitor conditions and
driver input to optimize performance and efficiency of the engine while adding
an extra layer of protection by staying one step ahead.
MARINE SPECIFIC OIL PAN AND PICK-UP TUBE
Designed to optimize oil pick-up at steep boat angles and high G turns.
The purpose built marine oil pan takes away the worry of oil starvation by
controlling how the oil moves around while towing all watersport disciplines.
QUIET RIDE
Combining the overhead cam engine design with Indmar’s transmission results
in an engine that runs smoother and quieter than any other inboard on the
water.
TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP
MAINTENANCE TO RESALE VALUE
STEP 6:
INQUIRE ABOUT
ROUTINE
MAINTENANCE
The Raptor Series performance, efficiency and durability are exceeding expectations on every
level. From 20% fuel efficiency and ease of routine maintenance to an industry first 5-year
factory warranty, Team Indmar has also succeeded in reducing the total cost of ownership.
SERVICE INTERVALS
The Raptor Series dual, long-life spark plugs not only improves combustion, but also extends
the spark plug service life to 300 hours. Oil Service Intervals have been extended to 75 hours.
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
Routine maintenance is painless thanks to Indmar’s easily accessible remote mounted oil
filter, quick-drain oil system, hi-mounted oil fill and hi-mounted components. In addition,
premium monitoring systems come standard which aids technicians in a more accurate and
quicker diagnostic.
WINTERIZATION
The standard closed cooling system makes winterization a snap with self-draining manifolds.
There are five easy access drain plugs. Technicians do not have to drain the block, only the
raw water pump, heat exchanger, transmission cooler, exhaust manifolds and v-drive.
SERVICE CENTERS
Indmar has over 1,800 service centers, so no matter where you are in the world one of Indmar’s
Certified Technicians can provide you with a first-class experience and professional service.
STEP 7:
WHAT ABOUT
THE WARRANTY
TRANSFERABILITY
Can you transfer the warranty, what about the next buyer can they transfer
the warranty. Also, find out who administers the warranty, the factory or a
third party?
Indmar’s 5-Year Factory warranty is administered directly through Indmar
Products, Inc. and is fully transferable. There are no third parties or insurance
involvement.
PEACE OF MIND PROTECTION
Not only does Indmar’s Raptor Series offer more power, more torque and better
fuel economy, more protection and peace of mind also come standard with our
full 5-Year Factory Warranty.
The Raptor Series is an exclusive line-up that defies every challenge, especially
the test of time.
