Psalm 121:1-8
Key Thought: My help
comes from the Lord!
I will lift up my
eyes to the hillsFrom whence comes
my help? 2 My help
comes from the
LORD. Who made
the heaven and
earth. 3 He will not
allow your foot to be
moved; He who
keep you will not
slumber. 4 Behold,
He who keeps Israel
Shall neither
slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is your
keeper; The LORD
is your shade at your
right hand. 6 The sun
shall not strike you
by day, Nor the
moon by night. 7 The
LORD shall
preserve you from
evil: He shall
preserve your soul.
8 The LORD shall
preserve your going
out and your coming
in From this time
forth, and even
forevermore. -NKJV

In this issue, our focus is to encourage and strengthen the
single parent household with single parent tips, nuggets of
biblical wisdom and the single truth that God has not forgotten
you. I invite you to read personally the story of Hagar in Genesis
Chapters 16 and 21. Hagar was a servant in Abram’s household
who was given to him by his wife. Sar’ai, his wife, was childless.
Hagar would have a child, be mistreated and despised. Later,
Sar’ai (changed to Sarah) would have her own child based on
the promise of God. Then, Hagar was sent out to wander in the
desert with her son alone, carrying only a bottle of water and
some bread. However, nothing goes unnoticed by God for long!
Regardless of feeling overwhelmed and hopelessness as a newly
single parent she would find comfort in her desert experience.
So rest in knowing that you have a living God that sees where
you are in your perspective role as a single mother, single father
or single caregiver to one child or several children.
God will console and upraise:
 The Angel of God told Hagar not to be afraid, because the
cries of the boy had been heard by God.
 God opened Hagar’s eyes and she saw a well of water to
give her son a long cold drink.
 God had a plan and future for her son, Ishmael.
 Today, God has a plan for your child or children, too.

Jeremiah 29:11
Ruth and Boaz
You will find this story in the book of Ruth, in Ruth 3:3-7. Ruth receives some
instruction from her mother in-law, Naomi to do this to Boaz. First of all, this
was a common practice in those days. Since Boaz was a kinsman to Naomi
and Ruth embraced Naomi as if she was her own mother, so Naomi spoke to
Ruth based on cultural heritage. Even though this was an unfamiliar practice
to Ruth, remember she told Naomi, “I will never leave you. Where you go, I
will go! Where you lodge, I will lodge. And your people shall be my people;
and your God shall be my God! (Ruth 1:16-18),” she willingly embraced
Naomi’s instructions. This practice was to remind Boaz of his duty as a
kinsman to Ruth because of Ruth's deceased husband.
But let me also give an answer based on inspiration and revelation of the
Scriptures. Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the
LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” And Psalm 119:133 says, “Order my
steps in Thy Word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.” Ruth was
also signifying to Boaz how honorable she would be as his wife to covet
whatever path God led him on. Notice that she didn’t try to take advantage of
him in his drunken state. Notice she didn’t try to coerce him into a sexual
relationship. There was nothing about her action that indicated immorality.
She laid across his feet with her clothes on, saying (just like what she said to
her mother in-law), “Wherever God leads you, I will follow! I won’t be a
hindrance or a distraction. I will encourage you as my husband to follow the
path God leads you on and we’ll walk it out together by faith!” Single women
who desire marriage have to also understand that as they desire a husband,
God may have a path for that man that they must prepare themselves for. My
wife didn’t ask God for a Pastor as a husband. I wasn’t a preacher when we
got married. But that was the plan of God for my life and my wife learned to
embrace it and not be a distraction or a hindrance to my ministry unto the
Lord. That doesn’t mean that God doesn’t have a plan for the woman because
He does! There is personal individual vision that God gives, but then there is
the vision for the house.
