Historical fiction? Fantasy? Adventure? ) Paragraph 1 • • What is the setting of your story? Setting refers to two things: physical environment, and time in history (1940’s, ancient time, the present, a thousand years from now). Describe the setting. Describe the story’s main character or protagonist. How does the main character develop or change as the book progresses? Paragraph 2 Plot Statement: The Plot is what happens in the novel. You want to tell what the story is about. • What is the main event or conflict? What things lead up to it? What happens as a result? Situation/ Conflict/ Resolution Paragraph 3 • From whose point of view is the author writing the book? Who is doing the speaking and describing: the protagonist (main character), an invisible third person, different characters at different times? Provide TWO sentences from the book as proof of your opinion Paragraph 4 • We can often make connections in a novel to our own life experiences and to other stories we have read. Your job is to find at least two connections between the book and your own life or another novel you’ve read. (This could be your own life, happenings at school or in the neighborhood or similar events at other times and places.)
