Model 813 Four Square Test Systems For Realtime Simulation Testing of Automotive Shafts and Joints Simulate Service Life With Proven MTS Four Square Technology Benefits Provides torque, speed, jounce, and steer motion Tests halfshafts, driveshafts, and joints Energy efficient way of testing multiple specimens Environmental simulation is available as an option Speeds up to 6000 rpm Compact design saves floor space Torsional hydraulic actuator integrated into gear box You can perform meaningful life testing on automotive driveshafts, halfshafts, and joints with proven MTS Four Square test systems. The MTS Four Square technology meets today’s need for accurate simulation of service conditions in testing vital drivetrain components. By applying our own method of torque control to four square systems, MTS offers a tool that provides superior simulation or block cycle testing. MTS four square systems are capable of simulation of torque, speed, jounce, and steer motion. And they do it with a system that is an efficient way to test multiple specimens. They are arranged in an endless loop so that torque is reacted from one specimen to the next. Thus, the MTS Four Square method provides testing of four specimens at once with a spinning rotary actuator under servohydraulic control built into the gearboxes to control torque. Drive motors under each gear box control speed and make up lost energy to provide uniform loading to all the test specimens. Uniform loading is maintained by the system even if the specimen yields or otherwise changes dimensions. This m allows the Four Square system to maintain its regenerative characteristics and real life simulation advantages. Optional environmental chambers are available for temperature control or application of salt, mud, or slurry sprays. Facility Requirements A variety of footprints are available, depending on specimen length. For example, a system intended to test rear wheel drive prop shafts would require a tee-slotted bedplate two meters wide by six meters long. A variety of configurations are available. Bedplates can rest on rubber isolation pads or be anchored with grouting to a concrete floor. They do not require a seismic mass. A water-to-oil heat exchanger for the gearbox lubrication system requires an adequate water supply to remove a maximum heat load of 14 kW. Electrical power requirements include 115V, 20Amp single phase power for electronic controls and three phase 120 kVA three phase power for motors. Hydraulic power requirements vary with test type. Simulation-type systems require 75 gpm at 3000 psi. Block cycle tests require 20 gpm capacity at 3000 psi.
