Area of a rectangle: Area= base x height (A=bh)
A right triangle is half of a rectangle (notice the diagonal in the rectangle) therefore the
formula for area of a triangle is: Area = ½ base x height (A = ½ bh) because you
divide the rectangle in half to get a triangle!
