THE COURSE Start Date: September 16th Latham, NY Woburn, MA Boston, MA Saugerties, NY Greenwood Lake, NY Sterling, CT Canton, CT Princeton, NJ WHAT IS IT? Simply put, a bike ride. A bike ride with three great objectives: Camaraderie. Advocacy. Health. The Awesome Beacon Bike Ride is a series of day rides from Boston, Massachusetts to Miami, Florida, a total distance of more than 2,000 miles. Below are some specifics about the ride: Wilmington, DE Towson, MD Reston VA Prince William Forest Park, VA Hanover County, VA York River State Park, VA Norfolk, VA Franklin, VA Macon, NC Morrisville, NC Fayetteville, NC • Each day varies in distance from 15 to 86 miles. • You can sign up for a distance that you feel comfortable with, in a location that is accessible to you along the primary East Coast route (additional options for non-East Coast riders will also be available in select locations). Aynor, SC Buck Hall Recreation Area, SC Green Pond, SC Savannah, GA Dock Junction, GA • You can participate for one day, part of a day, or more. Jacksonville, FL St. Augustine, FL Daytona Beach, FL • Experienced cyclists, as well as a safety vehicle, will accompany each ride. • The ride will stop off at Beacon offices on route. • There will also be some local media stop-offs scheduled to raise awareness for the ride. Cocoa Beach, FL Stuart, FL End Date: October 18th Fort Lauderdale, FL Miami, FL WHY? Most of all, this will be a fun company-wide initiative. We spend so much time together at work that this is an opportunity to spend time with colleagues building a sense of community and enjoying a different kind of team-building experience! Through the ride, we are promoting advocacy for the cause of behavioral health and fundraising for our two charity partners: NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and Mental Health America. Our goal is to raise $50,000 for each organization. The fundraising strategy targets corporate sponsorship rather than individual contributions. We have a Fundraising Committee that will be contacting many of the vendors with whom Beacon works about the opportunity for corporate sponsorship. Unless individuals are inspired to do so, we are not planning to pursue individual sponsorship. HOW DO I GET INVOLVED? Participation in The Awesome Beacon Bike Ride is open to Beacon employees, family members and friends of Beacon employees, Beacon clients, partners and vendors. In addition to participating as a rider, there are many other ways that you can get involved in The Awesome Beacon Bike Ride. We have specific work streams around fundraising, communications and route logistics. We are also looking for volunteers to provide start/finish line support, as well as people to drive support vehicles behind our riders.
