She worked on the stud side of the practice becoming a partner in 1994. Sarah set up and ran the Foal Care unit at Rossdales Equine Hospital, and carried out clinically based research on foal-based topics. In 2007 she left Rossdales and ran a TB boarding stud in Newmarket. In 2013 Sarah return to Practice working for Cheshire Equine Clinic providing stud services for the practice. In 2017 Sarah moved to TopSpec to take a position as Equine Veterinary Nutritionist, in her home county of North Yorkshire. She also continues as an honorary lecturer at Liverpool University, involved with post-graduate education. Lecture synopsis…….. DOD in horses is a multifactorial condition; these factors include genetics, exercise/trauma, nutrition and growth rates. This presentation will discuss the current scientific evidence regarding the importance of nutrition of the pregnant mare, foal and yearling in reducing the risks of DOD. It will review the basic principles of feeding breeding stock and provide in-depth information regarding recent scientific evidence and how to apply these findings to practical advice given to clients on dietary management of breeding stock. • • • Understanding the principles of optimum nutrition of the broodmare from around the time of conception How to provide nutritional support for steady, even growth Practical nutritional management of the foal through weaning and during the first winter This presentation is suitable for all delegates wishing to further their knowledge of optimum nutrition for the development of a sound musculoskeletal system in youngstock.
