New MRL Tolerance Enables Use of Sevin® XLR Plus
on Citrus grown in California for Exports to Korea
In December 2016, tolerance limits for allowable carbaryl insecticide residue on citrus being
exported to Korea were updated by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
The maximum residue level (MRL) for carbaryl is now set at a tolerance of 7.0 parts per
million (ppm).
SEVIN XLR PLUS is a Group 1A insecticide providing long residual control. It is easy to handle,
mix and apply for control many common pests. See Table 1 for pests and application rates.

Timing of application is an important consideration to meet MRL guidelines. The results in the
following table with application rates, PHIs and corresponding MRLs serve as a guide, not a
guarantee.

Field trials to test the residue levels of Sevin® XLR Plus (carbaryl) in citrus harvests
Field trials conducted by independent testing agencies both in California and internationally as
recently as 2015-16 indicate results below the MRL limit of 7.0 ppm for citrus exports to Korea.
The following table shows data gathered from 16 field trials with corresponding rates and harvest
intervals.
Varieties of oranges tested included: Newhall, Atwood, Late Lane, Washington, and Cara Cara.
