At Principal Life Insurance Company, we understand you want to minimize the impact
personal issues can have on your employees’ job performance. That’s why we offer access to
an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to our group disability insurance customers.

Best of all, EAP services are available at no cost to employees and their families. And if they
need assistance beyond the scope of the EAP, the counselor will help find an affordable
solution. (Members are responsible for any fees resulting from referrals outside of the EAP,
including those associated with a medical benefit plan.)
Help when employees need it
Through an EAP provided by Magellan Health Services, your employees can get help that’s
easy, convenient and confidential. Counselors are available at 1-800-450-1327, 24 hours a
day, seven days a week from anywhere in the United States.
Your EAP offers assistance to employees and managers when they need help with day-to-day
issues, so they can be at their best – at work and at home. Assistance is available for:
• Family, relationship and parenting issues
• Child and elder care needs
• Emotional and stress-related issues
• Conflicts at home or work
• Alcohol and drug dependencies
• Health and wellness issues
Services for employees and their families:
• Telephone consultation, available 24/7, with licensed mental health professionals
• Referrals to local child and elder care services and resources
• Online information and service
• Referrals to community resources when employees need additional assistance

Workplace Support Services for managers and supervisors:
• Management consultation and coaching to help recognize and address
work-related problems
• On-site counselors in the workplace after a critical incident (Critical Incident Stress
Management, CISM)
• Online manager support information
• Access to EAP-delivered orientation and wellness training seminars
• Materials to promote the EAP and its services to employees
• Formal referral of employees on a fee-for-service basis
Make the most of your EAP
Here’s how:
• Use the program yourself so you have first-hand experience with the services available.
• Promote the EAP so employees are aware they have access to confidential help when
they need it.
• Communicate the importance of EAP services and include it in company procedures
for helping employees.
• Discuss the availability of the EAP in staff meetings and casual conversations with employees.
• Distribute copies of available employee materials to those eligible for the program.
• Hang posters in work areas and break rooms to remind employees the EAP is available.
• Consider scheduling an on-site EAP orientation training session.
