"The Scarlet Ibis" Reading Questions (Be sure to finish reading "The Scarlet Ibis" before you start this assignment.) You may complete the following questions on your own, with a partner, or with your table group. However, you will turn in your own responses to the class trays at the end of class. You are going to be writing openended responses to three of the four questions. There are four questions; you choose three to respond to. I will grade your best two. You should use the graphic organizer that we have been using in class that helps you focus on one answer, multiple pieces of textual evidence to support your answer, and connecting analysis that connects your evidence to your answer. Plan for about 8 minutes for each response and then spend the rest of the time composing your three responses on a separate sheet of paper. Be sure to put your name on your paper, title it "Scarlet Ibis OERs", and put it in the class trays at the end of class. You may use your Sentence Templates + Transitional Phrases handout from last week to help you write your responses. There are sample responses posted around the room for you to see. Consider these your mentor texts. They are well written and insightful, and you are trying to mimic their structure, style, and tone. 1) How would you best characterize the narrator of "The Scarlet Ibis"? 2) How would you best characterize Doodle? 3) What is the symbolic significance of Old Woman Swamp? 4) What are the similarities between Doodle and the scarlet ibis?
